what are the affects of listening to music while studying?

I like to have music on when I'm drawing, mostly fusion. I can't read well if I have music on though.

i usually start with music, then after a while the playlist will be over and i wont even realize that nothing is playing because im so focused. heh

I play music in the background when studying for math or writing a paper. If my studying involves reading, then I don't turn on music because I tend to pay attention to the lyrics instead of the study material.

I always found it distracting for reading or solving difficult problems, but for doing something somewhat 'mindless' it's okay.
