What are the advantages of Win2000?

Everyone seems to love Windows 2k best (out of windows OS's at least).

Why?

Besides Andy's straightforward response I would also add that it seems that microsoft was not trying to create something for everyone (xp), and focused the o/s more on serious users (power/business).

Also consider there have been 2 service-packs released for Win2000, each making the OS that much better/more-stable/trouble-free/etc.

i agree. winxp is really still a beta product in my mind till they get some SPs out. even still what was said about 2000 being designed for power users is also true. XP is more of an ME-based and my experience with ME left me with the impression that it was nothing more than a joke pulled on thousands of unsuspecting consumers. with 2000 you will get stability, performance, a solid base for whatever your networking needs are, and despite what is said by the M$-haters out there it is pretty secure . . . as long as you know how to lock it down

Here's why I use Windows 2000-

It's very stable (runs fine for weeks at a time, not days). Memory and process management is also leaps and bounds ahead of 98/ME.

USB works much better than in 98/ME.

Game compatibility is a reason some people have problems with it, but those problems are few and far between. DOS games usually have to play without sound, and Red Alert 1 won't run, but most all windows-native software works great.

Drivers/hardware/software is maturing to the point where Windows 2000 is getting better performance in games than Windows 98. This also includes XP since 2K has less overhead.

Windows 2000 is Microsoft's "business" operating system which, historically, have better support, but also are supported for much longer.
