Techinically you don't need a floppy for windows either. You can just slipstream a disk with the appropriate drivers for your hardware. Which the slipstream process can save you a great deal of configuration time anyways.

I know that. But it's tough when you have a Windows XP install cd and a unformated computer sitting in front of you to build a slipstream cd to install it. It's only realy usefull if your reinstalling windows, or have a bunch of XP machines to setup. 😉

I just mentioned it as a bit tongue-in-cheek. It's been a very long time since any of my computers has had a floppy drive, they seem antique items nowadays.. like my ancient sound blaster card that has a adapter for a cdrom drive on it.
 
Even though my raptor is sata, I turned off the option for the sata controller and the board shows it as a normal ide drive. If you think about it, a slipstreamed W2K SP4 disc would be more on par with a more upto date linux distro. I don't really see people touting old distros as the next greatest thing. 🙂
