In a collision you have a high chance of ending up in someone else's windshield or path of driving (causing them in turn to swerve and get in a collision).

I'm sure the same people who are against seatbelt laws would have a problem if a 150-200 pound bag of cement mix was loosely strapped to every vehicle on the road beside you. In the event of a collision it would fly off with lots of force.

That is how I always saw it at least. Also, there is more chance of recovering an out of control vehicle endangering others, if you are still -inside- of it.

Your analogy does not hold water. If I have a 150lb bag of cement in the back of my truck, there is no law in my state, that I am aware of, that states I have to tie it down.

Well I don't know squat about your state because not everyone here is a yankee. Where I come from their are vehicle regulations and you must tie down dangerous things on your vehicle. I'm surprised there wouldn't be anything similar to that where you live.

Obviously a bag of cement in the bed of a truck isn't going to go much anywhere during a collision because it will slam up against the walls. Put it on the front hood instead (near where the occupants would be) an d that is a more likely effect.

That is not the point.
The point is that I am not a huge fan of the government trying to regulate, instill penalties for, and stick it's nose into every part of people's lives. I am against the government passing laws, to make money, and trying to convince the public that they are only looking out for our best interests.

again...
Are seatbelts a smart thing?... sure.
Do I think we should be forced by punishments of penalties to wear them?... no.

:)

I agree that some laws are poorly written. However, seatbelt laws are definitely not a bad idea (not for your own well being but that of others which the government has a duty to protect).

Jesus criminy, can anyone, anyone here have a debate without resorting to namecalling? If nothing else, that is just a sign that you have no argument.

In the trunk or in my front seat it does NOT have to be tied down.

Admit it, the only reason why the Feds pushed the states to pass this law was based on the arguments and testimony of a few people who believe it is the government's duty to protect everyone from everything. You can add the airbag regulations to the same discussion.

Now, can you debate this point without referencing my origins (btw, born a yankee, but now a Texan)?

Damn nanny-staters. I wonder how they get anything done in their own lives when they spend so much time and energy worrying about everyone else's life?

This really gets me too, it's one of my biggest peeves. I think it's a mark of low age and/or intelligence. You can have a good argument with points to back it up (and you do, in this case, and I agree wholeheartedly with you), and when someone can't refute it they come back with "u asshat" or somesuch.. it's utterly disgusting.

Wow didn't know yankee was offensive . It doesn't have any negative connotation here. It's just slang for a citizen of the United States of America.

Wasn't directed at you, it's just a general sentiment I share. He brought it up and i responded without meaning anyone in particular - sorry that it came off as being directed at you, it honestly wasn't.

I don't know why, but I'm against people that use the view screen on their digital camera to line up the picture rather than the eyepiece.

I'm also against rap music, and any type of candy/food that is blue (except blueberries- but they're actually kind of purple-ish).

Finally, I'm against gold trim on a vehicle. TACK-KAY!!!!

1. Rude people who care only about themselves.
2. Tree huggers who worry more about the enviornment or animals than the person living next door.
3. People who feel the need to put down those who may profess a faith in God/Religion.
4. People who want to complain about what life has dealt them but won't lift a finger to change their situation.

What others? You hurt no one but yourself when you choose to not wear a seatbelt. I don't want nanny government all over the place trying to protect the morons in the country...darwin needs to rise from the dead and smack the sh!t outta all these nanny government supporters.

1. Conservative politcal views
2. People that dislike paying taxes.
3. The ban of DDT. Like someone mentioned earlier: DDT could save many lives. However, environmentalists are clinging to Rachel Carson's BS book as proof against DDT.
4. Religous fundamentalists.
5. Ignorance.
6. The multitude of denominations we have.
7. Flat tax
8. Drilling for oil in Alaska
9. The political process in Washington. IMO, for politicians too energy is focused on re-election as opposed to truly constructive work.
10. Pork barrel legislation
11. Low pay for teachers
12. 95% of the new "music" that comes out.
13. Ill throw in a few sports team too: Mets, Philies, Yankees, Lakers, Red Wings, Cotlts, Patriots, Ravens, Rams :p
