The WW2 Museum is EXCELLENT.

Some already listed..

Cafe Du Mond (Don't wear dark clothes.. haha)
Jackson Square
Lafitte's Blacksmith Bar - Great Huricanes.. go in the evening for the candle ambiance.
Wander around.. take a walking tour or 2. Lots to see and do. Lots of History.
Get a couple Hand Grenades before noon. They sell them on the streets.
Wander the streets with beer, just because you can.
Check out the Cemeteries.. we roamed around the one north of Bourbon Street.. it was quite a few blocks but very interesting.

The New Orleans Zoo is pretty sweet if you like Zoos.

I love NOLA, can't wait to go back!

You can get a peanut butter hamburger at Yo-Mama's bar and grill. I had a different burger there.. but my sister swears by the PB burger. next time I'll defiantly get one.

Great list! I just moved back after spending 10 years there so let me add a few thoughts and ideas...

  • The Aquarium at the end of Canal St is neat if you like that sort of thing. There's an IMAX next door.

  • As mentioned above, the cemeteries are a must if you have never seen crypts or above ground burials.

  • Reserve a lunch or dinner trip on the steamboat Natchez. The trip up and down the Mississippi River lasts a couple of hours.

  • For great pizza check out NY Pizza on Magazine Street - order the Brooklyn Bridge. Tell them Randy said hello.

  • If you go to the French Quarter be sure you understand that crossing St. Ann St makes a bold statement about your sexual preference. In case you miss the sign you will know it by the smell of sweet cologne and baby powder - and it's darkly lit.

  • Check out the buskers (street performers) throughout the FQ and in front of Jackson Square.

  • Alcohol is everywhere so I won't bother listing the places.

  • Check out upcoming concerts at the House of Blues now in case you want to buy tickets.

  • Ignore the idiots who say they can tell you where you got your shoes.

  • Stay in well lighted places at night. I know that should go without saying but after a few drinks it's easy to wander off. Bad ju-ju happens to people who do that.

  • The cops are not as bad as they used to be but they will bust you if you get crazy.

  • Use plastic or carry "enough" cash. ATMs in the FQ charge $5 per transaction.

  • Take one of the many carriage rides available in the FQ.

  • For some fresh air leave the FQ and head to Metairie on Veterans Blvd near Causeway to Copeland's Sweet Fire & Ice restaurant. Food is good and the desserts are killer. They also have an ice bar with oxygen.

  • Like to gamble? Head to west to Kenner near the airport and take Williams Blvd North to the Tresurechest Riverboat Casino. There's also a casino n Bucktown (not far) but I prefer the Tresurechest.

  • For the best charbroiled oysters go to Drago's in Fat City. I don't even like oysters but this is an exception.

  • Last but not least remember the beads. They are used as currency when you want a lady to show you the goods.

If you like jazz go to Preservation Hall. I've been a few times and never been disappointed. It looks like it's about to fall down on itself, it's small and crowded, but the music is always good.

The gumbo shop is good food, I highly recommend it.

My wife and I decided to try a Hurricane at every bar on Bourbon Street I think we made it about 1 1/2 miles by 2 am. It was a long walk back.

btw-I really think the best one was the first one we had at the Red Fish Grill.

I would definitely recommend the WWII museum. Make sure that you go see the 4D experience or whatever it's called. It's a movie that you have to pay extra for but it is worth every penny that you pay.

I went on some of the "Haunted tours". They are hit and miss but I really enjoyed the cemetery one
