Reasons for loudness:

1. They're stupid
2. They're annoying (see #1)
3. They suffer from hearing loss
4. They're Al Pacino

5. They're Samuel L. Jackson

Is there some logic for this? Hearing loss?

Maybe it's because she's in her own room and no one was sleeping. Maybe she feels she can talk as loud as she wants since it was an important conversation. And if anyone is bothered by this they can go play with my dog. :)

I completely agree.

This is kind of funny, because you are the equivalent of a loud talker on the internet with the multitude of pointless threads you create.

What are some reasons why people talk loud?

hearing loss
to be heard
grew up in a family that required it to be heard
because they can
confidence
pseudo confidence
intimidation
etc.

What are some reasons why people tell people that talk loud to lower their voice?

actually is too loud
is not really that loud but they don't have anything to say so tell them that to give them time to think
don't want to hear what the speaker is saying
to badger the speaker
to interrupt the speakers thought process
intimidation
etc.

My thought exactly.

That said, my ex talked very loudly whether on a phone or not. Gawd, it was annoying. Embarassing, even.

WHAT?!!

I believe scientific explanation for this, is that those people have very low emotional intelligence. They have a hard time understanding how other people feel and generally only care about themselves.
Of course society on the average actually rewards these kind of people, because they are perceived as "fearless" "leaders" "social" and what not..

So people who talk loud are less intelligent? Awesome.

One groups starts talking loud. Another talks loud to be heard, so the first talks even louder to be heard aswell.

Repeat.

No. They *could* be geniuses by most standards. I said low "emotional intelligence". Which is different from problem-solving IQ. It's a relatively new definition of type of intelligence, read up here if you want.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotional_intelligence

You're right, it's still unproven theory of psychology :p But to me personally, it seems some people are better at conflict solving/understanding other people's point of view than others. It's a part of personality that can perhaps be learned/unlearned. Pretty fuzzy definition though.

I talk loud often cuz I get excited easily and don't realize I talk loud.

That and I work in a very very busy and loud environment(an emergency room) and we're constantly shouting and talking loud...so when I get home I don't realize how loud I'm talking :p

Yeah, sometimes environment is responsible. After my mom started working supervising swimming pool (or something of the sort :p ) she's started talking louder because she has to yell louder in a large group. But then again, she was always a loud talker :p
