What are some of your best memories from childhood?

I remember one of the few times I went fishing with my dad. (actually my step dad, but he was much more of a dad than my real dad ever was). My older brother was always more into the outdoor activities and I was more of the techno weenie, so I didn't always go when they went on fishing trips.

On this occasion it was just me and my dad. I am not much of a fisherman, but I went along anyway just to make him happy. I remember being out on the boat. It was just a few minutes past sunrise. My dad casted off and I said some generic compliment. "Nice throw" or something similiar. He turned to me and smiled. That was one of the most wonderful smiles that I have ever seen. It was a look of total content.

Looking back, I see many times that I should have done more with him. He was always trying to do little things to bring us all together. I'd give everything I own to be able to cast off with him one more time. He taught me everything I know about being a man. How to believe in yourself, to always be honest, dependable and caring towards others.

He passed away October 15th, 2004, three days short of one month after me and my wife were married. I wish that he could have lived long enough to see my children, but he still lives in the things that he taught me and that I will pass on to my son someday.

So, what are some things that you will always remember from you rchildhood?

- shooting everything with BB & pellet guns and later .22s
- playing Sega Master System
- renting wrestling videos and watching them with my bro
- watching Saturday Night's Main Event
- watching my brother run at the speed of light from the barn to the house to tell my parents that he saw my sisters smoking :)
- riding our bikes down to the cemetary to catch the bus for swimming lessons on Saturdays
- buying candy after swimming lessons
- being told to "stay away from town kids" LOL

ah, i pretty much remember everything. i could go on and on

thats a nice story, very touching. i used to do stuff with my dad, like go fishing, hunting, etc, but it never really felt like anytihng special to me. i can't say that there was anything really special from my childhood like that. my family isn't really all that close. everyone is always doing their own thing. i guess thats why i always get somwhat emotional when i see or hear about stuff like this.

maybe its more of one of those things where you don't realize what you have or had until its gone?

I think so. I never really thought it was big deal either, untill I realized that we couldn't do them anymore. I just bought a new house and about a month ago I started having plumbing problems. I picked up the phone and had dialed half the number before I ralized that he was not going to answer. So much knowledge lost. :(

Sorry to keep being a downer on this thread. I meant for it to be a fun uplifting type thing.

simply going for walks in the hot summer evenings with my mom dad and brother. It was muggy and hot and when we got back from the walk, it was dark and the air had cooled just a bit. As we were putting on our PJ's, my dad would cut us huge pieces of watermelon. The smell of the fruit and evening air is something i will never forget.

hmmmm.... i think my fondest memory is of when my friends and i would go camp under this bridge in my home town. it was a bridge that went over a large creek. next to the creek was this perfect spot to set up two tents and set up a campfire in the middle. we caught the fish and ate the fish and just camped under this bridge. it was so fun.

I've chomped my fair share of watermelon on summer nights. :) :D

It makes your heart hurt to remember things like this, but in a good way!

My best memory was wasting 2 years of my life chasing after one girl. On and off with her. Sometimes we were great, and sometimes we were both heartbroken. It could have been the ultimate love story if we had actually gotten our acts together. However, we both found much more stable companions.

Travelling through the Himalayas with a fairly large group of family. We got on what was supposed to be 12 hour bus ride from New Delhi to Kulu Manali, which is a small town up in the Himalayas. From that town you could see the peak of Mount Everest, it was a beautiful site. The trip was event-ridden with our bus breaking down multiple times along the way, turning the trip into a 24hour one! It was still fun.

I remember sitting on the side of the road in the mountains eating apples with my family as we looked over the railings and peered into the valley thousands of feet below. Another back up bus showed up in some time and we hopped on that until that broke down, luckily in some small town. As we all gathered around a fire telling stories and eating, our original bus showed up, repaired and ready to go. After that, it was one of hte scariest rides of my life as the bus climbed the winding narrow roads that snaked around the mountains....as another bus came in the opposite direction, our bus would go towards the side of the road (leaning heavily!), which meant that if you looked out the window, you'd see the valley many thousands of feet below! I remember my little cousin crouching in a ball and praying out of fear.

We made it to our destination fine and the trip was worth it. It was such an enchanting place. Here are a few small pics of hte place:

It was probably one of my best vacations ever. I hope you enjoyed my tales. :)

hmm i don;t remember much when i was younger, i wonder why >_<. anyways one interesting thing me and my buddy did was catch bee's and burned them. first we would pour soda on a bench and swat them as they swarmed the soda and pick them up and throw them in a fire we made in teh woods... was very boring. other then that we often rode our mountain bikes down some crazy hills and go fishing by some dock..

You should, make sure you check out the north and the south (and south east - Pondicherry); just stay away from the middle! :p
