For the record:

1. Washing machine:

a. All Free & Clear laundry gel pellets (aka bland-flavored Tide Pods)
b. Store-brand Free & Clear fabric softener

2. Dryer:

a. Store-brand Free & Clear dryer sheets

I would use scented washer/dryer stuff like Tide, but I have a member of the household who has a skin reaction to the scented stuff. The plain stuff works fine. Smells clean. Not like a fresh field of flowers, but you know, clean ;)

I use some kind of cheapo unscented brand. For scenting, I dry outside as much as possible. Outside smells the best. If I were inclined to make my laundry smell like something, I'd add something after cleaning with unscented detergent. Mass market cleaning products invariably smell like Port-A-Pot chemicals. They smell cheap, strong, and industrial.
