What are some of the best-smelling laundry detergents out there?

^^ want to make my clothes smell better, but I don't want to try the 2,000 varieties at the supermarket. suggestions? also, do you use a combo of detergent/softener/sheets for washing/softness/static?

Just stand in the supermarket aisle and open all the different ones to smell them;)

Ask a cute girl in the detergent aisle what she recommends.

Edit: Maybe its not your clothes that are smelling. Check the deoderant aisle while you're at it.

After getting ripped off by all the brand names (Tide, Cheer, etc.) we tried a lower priced one and found out it does a very good job at a much lower price. We settled with using Purex (comes in different scents, or scent-free) and we get them 2 for $5 @ Target or Walmart, these are the 100 Fl.oz. bottles.

Wife and I also use Downy and Bounce sheets in the dryer.

I actually like Arm & Hammer's no-scent(It's like hypo-allergenic and all that) detergent the best. I got it once, and switched to the regular scented stuff again.. and noticed how offensive it was.

Purex = from Dial Corp :) I just finished a market research project on laundry detergents for my marketing class. Turns out like 90% of the stuff there belongs to Proctor & Gamble - Tide, Downy, Gain, Cheer, Bounce, etc., all are owned by them. I'll give Purex a shot, I'll be on a serious budget for the next year. Thanks!

ziiiiiiiiing! nah, I shower every day. I use either Speed Stick or Old Spice, plus aftershave.

I just use a shampoo/conditioner all-in-one on my hair/body...anyone else do that? I find bar soaps dry out my skin too much :p

Why does every product have to "smell".... that is just unwanted, un-need, and sometime hazardous chemicals that are added to market to fools.

I used to use and really like liquid Era, then one day it started smelling like creosote. I returned a jug and wondered if it was an odd one-off. But then when I'd go back in the store every once in a while I'd remove the cap from a jug, and they all smelled like that. So no more Era.

Tried Arm & Hammer liquid soap for a bit and - wham - the smell was overpowering. I could barely stand to wear the clothes, they smelled so strongly. So I put it on the shelf.

Then I started buying Tide Free powdered detergent, which is unscented. No scent is much better than reeking.

Lately I've been using the unscented Tide and I throw just a small amount of the Arm & Hammer liquid into the wash - only an ounce or two. Perfect. I really like the smell, but in small doses.

I also noticed the same thing with the anti-static dryer sheets I was using. All of a sudden they were overpowering, so I switched to unscented.

The one that leaves the least smell at all. I find Tide is the best for that out of the ones I tried. It will leave a smell but it tends to go away.

9 out of 10 teenagers agree it's also one of the best tasting. (1 out of 9 died or were hospitalized so they could not get data)
