Hello,
New to anandtech, not new with PC's, going to college now for network specialist AS. Been into computers for around 10 yrs. For almost the whole time though i was a AMD fan , athlon and up until, release of intel core 2 duo etc. So, I'm a little unsure as to what motherboard / chipset combination's would be good for around the $150 price range or under, that at least quad core capable , with @ least FSB 1333 etc , and have two PCI-express x16.

Not sure who's better now, the nvidia , or intel chipsets now and days for these types of mobo's.

Also i plan to buy a wolfdale quadcore 45nm will that require a certain motherboard?

thanks,
welcome any and all replies

bumping a topic in less than an hour is a bit ott ...
(as are caps & bold)

anyway, you say that you want 2 x16 PCI-E (physical or electrical as well) slots, why?
if you plan to go SLI then you have to go with an nVidia chipset (unless you can afford Skulltrail) but generally most people would say that Intel chipsets are better overall.

Assuming that you want 2 x16 electrical PCI-E slots you will toil to find a decent mobo with all that you want for $150 or under.

If you don't need SLI or Crossfire get a P45 board, the P5Q-E is an excellent board, that's whet i'm getting to play around alittle bit with :D

If you want Crossfire, get an x38 or better yet X48 (expensive though) board, the X38 DS5 is a great board and awesome for the money.

Nvidia boards are generally not as good as Intel boards, the only exception is the 790i chipset, but that needs DDR3 and is expensive.
