Personally, I think it's better to go into a field you like and eventually take lower pay, as opposed to going into a field you hate and winding up with a slightly higher pay.

Maybe she should enter college as undeclared, take a few courses, and through that find out what she actually likes?

This has been discussed before. I know here at UF for females probably anything in the Journalism and Business colleges. For males, anything in business and engineering.

don't ruin someone life by telling what he/she should study. you can tell them what school they should go to. let them decide it on their own.

I'd say to let her go for whatever she'll be happy using in her career.
Do psych majors end up with careers? I didn't think the majority of them were that employable

With an undergrad, a psych degree is useless unless one wants to do HR. Psychologists are only taken seriously with a PhD and years of being someone's bitch.

Yeah, if she really wants to do psychology, she better at least double major (like I did), or plan to go at least for her Masters. Sure it's great and all to say "Let her go for what she wants", but frankly, I think that's foolish. I know way too many people who aren't working in their field of study because their field didn't have jobs for them when they graduated.

Buy yeah, nursing is hot these days. Teachers are still in demand as well in many cases.

pharmacuticals and pharmacists make big bucks, expect to work long hours though.

radiology techs do well.

If I had the money to go back to college again, I'd be a pharmacist.

why is this information helpful to you? are you going to try to convince her otherwise?

if she likes psychology, let her pursue it. it's much better to study material that you like rather than suffer through a boring and uninteresting major just because your brother told you that something else was hotter.

i minored in psychology. i think it's a very cool subject matter to learn.

don't make her change her major "just because."

I majored in Psych and minored in Soc, and both have helped me immeasurably. Knowing how people work is not a bad thing. :D I am a second grade teacher and am very well considered in my community, and that's enough for me.

But in any case, there is no guarantee that if she majors in something that is 'hot' now that she will be successful.

My sister got a BA in English Literature and makes over 300K per year in sales.

Sometimes, being intelligent, polished, and people savvy is more of an indicator of success than anything else. Let her find her own way!

Boy, you ATOT folks are slacking...... :camera:?? ;)

Nothing wrong with psych as a major, if that's what she's interested in. It's certainly not a 'hot' field like some others, but it's better to get a degree in somethingy you're interested in, you can always leverage that later on.

Pharmacy and engineering are the most financially lucrative.

Is that what you mean by "in demand?"

Soooo not true.
My wife took a biology degree at the best biology school in PA, graduated in the top 1% of her class. Still unable to find employment...

Dont take a major if you have little or no job prospects with that degree.

Edit: pharmacy, nursing, engineering, && sales are the jobs with most potential right now.
