What are some good specs for LCD Monitors?

I'm not familiar with LCD monitors but

Contrast Ratio : 300:1
Brightness : 250 cd/m2

Ok?

Most LCD montiors come with you standard VGA adapter right? Does DVI really have a drastic improvement over VGA analog?
