I already know about Oblivion, Neverwinter nights 1 & 2(are they any good?), diablo, titan quest, mass effect, baulder's gate, and the witcher, and may get some of those. Are there any other good fantasy RPGs out for the PC?

Baldur's Gate II. This is a must buy. Also of note are many other Black Isle RPGs, including Fallout I & II, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale. There's also KOTOR and Neverwinter Nights (though the latter needs some work IMO.) Escape Velocity Nova is not entirely an RPG, but it's close enough.

I've also had recommended to me (though I've never played them):

KOTOR 2
Arcanum
Gothic
Deus Ex (the original)
Bard's Tale (the original)
Neverwinter Nights II
The Elder Scrolls series (esp. Morrowind and Oblivion)
Fallout III

thing that gets me about neverwinter nights is i've heard they're really buggy. I did manage to play through the Neverwinter nights 1 demo without a crash or anything but it still worries me. NWM2 i hear has a ton of bugs.

NWN1 is long, long past the point of bugginess. It's as stable as stable can be.

NWN2 was quite stable at least as far as playing the OCs, but I don't know what the new patch (released last week) for the new expansion has done.

BG2 is the one game you must play no matter what.

OC = Original Campaign

Much of the point of NWN and NWN2 (particularly the former, which is almost pointless without them) is in playing mods.

Mass Effect is great, but not fantasy. Also, the combat is a shooter mechanic.

Also, I've heard that Gothic 2 is the best of them. Is Gothic 3 bug-free yet?

Definitely get Torment while you're at it. And use the widescreen mod.

do you like Turn Based Strategy? there are some very good games like the recent King's Bounty which i really liked. older titles include: Heroes of Might and Magic series (latest is 5, the best is 3), Age of Wonders 2, Fantasy Wars and more.

again, if you dont mind playing really old games there are some very excellent options like the Might and Magic sereis (not Heroes of...) 6 and 7.

another Hack'n'Slasher i didnt see you list is Sacred. the first one is good and the second one just came out.

oh oh and dont forget Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for the PC. those are EPIC!

Yes, i am a big RPG and TBS fan :)

I'd remove the Gothic 3 titles, add Gothic 1 and 2. I'd also remove Mass Effect. It was fun, but has no replay value at all and plays more like a first person shooter with stats.

Gothic 3 is still extremely bug ridden and requires tweaking to run properly, especially under Vista. Not sure about Forsaken Gods though, it hasn't be released yet. It already has a patch available though.

Might want to consider NWN2 Storms of Zehir as well, it was recently released and seems to be getting positive reviews.

Titan Quest is not a Role-playing game. Its an action game with stats.
Dont get me wrong, I love it and its the best hack'n'slash game ever made, but its not even comparable to real RPG's.

I recommend you start with the Forgotten Realms Collection. It has BG 1 and 2 on DVD, plus expansions. It also has Icewind Dale 1 and 2. Its also got NWN 1 but I never cared much for it.

Before playing Baldurs Gate 1, I recommend you check out the TuTu mod which lets you play the game under the much improved Baldurs Gate 2 engine. You have to fully install both games before running the mod.

Titan Quest is more or less Diablo II. An RPG, it's not.

On top of the list should be the following:
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate II (it's better than BG1 - but fuggedabout Dark Alliance)
Fallout II (Fallout 1 is not as good, but if you want to play it, play it first)

The fact that these are all Black Isle games is not a coincidence.

If you're willing to broaden your definition of RPG and figure out a Dreamcast emulator, Shenmue (and Shenmue 2) might fit your definition. I've never played either, but these games have truly amazing reputations.

On a more negative note, I played a good chunk of Icewind Dale II, and hated it. A Baldur's Gate style RPG is dependent totally on story and character, without which the game becomes a mediocre squad-based combat sim.

Also, The Witcher is not entirely an RPG either - Yahtzee didn't much care for the bit of it he played, so I recommend trying before you buy.

 Great little ames and Divine Divinity has more depth than the graphics would have you to believe; plus DD provides hours of game play.

Gothic 3 is very doable with Patch 1.6, but wait for the final 1.7. Gothic 1 and 2 + Expansion provided some the very best RPG experience I have had in a long time.

I recently picked up The Witcher Enhanced Edition and it's a great damn game. Reminds me a LOT of Betrayal in Antara though...go Sierra, lol.

I'll toss my coin in with the Heroes of Might and Magic games...they're turn-based strategy games, but they're awefully fun. HOMM2 is one of my all time favorite games and always will be. Diablo 2 is always fun, as is the original Diablo.

I didn't end up caring much for Oblivion. It got really repetitive after closing the Eleventee-ith hell gate. If there was a difference in them, I didn't notice.

Guild Wars is also pretty cool.

Hellgate London was fun to play through once...kind of...as a melee character. Dual-wield blademaster was fun...except that one of the final bosses is airborne and it's really tough to kill an airborne boss as a melee...not well thought out, imo. You should be able to find it cheap now, hehe.

Titan Quest isn't even 1/10th of what Diablo II is, and I've put my share of hours into TQ and its expansion, with friends over lan, ran through it clearing everything on normal difficulty and did runs for items etc. I played Diablo II for many years, level 99, hardcore level 97, heck of a lot more. No comparison.

Fallout II is also a lot buggier than Fallout I, make sure to save really often and have the icon easy to find on your desktop.

The best way to get the Fallouts now is through Good Old Games.

But neither is swords&sorcery.

Another small publisher RPG to look at is Arx Fatalis. It has its own flavor, like you have to learn to cast spells by moving the mouse to make rune motions IIRC.

Another are the many RPG's, old school, at spiderwebsoftware.come - they have huge free demos and nice stories.
