What are some good loans to get as a student?

Are there some loans that are really popular for this kind of stuff? I search student loans and all I get are different companies doing the Stafford Loan. Fortunatey I have a healthy dose of that already, but that just gets me by to pay for school. I'm looking ot replace my beat up old station wagon and I desperately need a car loan to lay a big down payment to keep my monthly payments low, or just buy the darn car all together. Any ideas? Companies with historically low interest rates, reputability, or should I even get one in the first place?

as a student that just finished his undergraduate degree, don't add more loans onto your already high student loans.

i'm doing my master's next yr and will have to keep adding those student loans so i wouldn't think about buying a new car if you already have one that works

Okay, maybe we should consider the situation:
I will be living 15 minutes off campus, shuttle will not be an option
I have a 1989 Toyota Camry
What's a lot in student loans? I borrow less than 5k a year (go public schools!)
If I do get one, how big should I get one? 25k? 20k? 10k just for the down payment?

Just get a credit card and charge a car on that. You will be off to a roaring start once you finish college.

All I can say is that I got a student loan for college and now have to start paying it back. Luckily it has a really low interest rate (2.5% and will drop even more under certain situations)

Well, I guess I can start celebrating my car's 16th birthday because it looks like I'm going to stick with this one...

I'd think your suggestion of a $25,000 car loan as a student, on top of student loans seems a bit excessive. What bank will loan you that money without a job and with other debt? Probably very few. Being a student doesn't help your situation at all. There aren't companies that are much more willing to give a student a car loan just because they are students.

Is there any actually wrong with your Camry? If it runs, be happy, and you'll be out of college quite soon with a large income to replace it. If not, what about a used car? A $4000 car (if the right kind) can be very nice and reliable.
