For some Japanese movies that are good (if old):
- Zatoichi
- Yojimbo
- Seven Samurai, Ran
- Chushingura (slow but good drama of the story told to DeNiro in Ronin about masterless samurai avenging their lord)

I saw one called "Audition" which was pretty freaky.

About this widower who wants to find a new wife, so he pretends to be a film producer and auditions a bunch of women. He finds one to date but she turns out to be deranged. It's interesting.

Yojimbo, Seven Samurai, & Ran are all classic Akira Kurosawa movies. A lot of the movies staring Toshiro Mifune are pretty good, when I was raised my grandfather use to watch and show me all his old movies.

i liked Brother a lot.

i also HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Tampopo. It's a movie made in the mid 80's and it's all about food and it's cultural aspects. I'm a total foodie and i was totally into this movie. i should buy it on dvd.
