What are some good free messageboards?

Hey people,

I've recently gained access to a webftp. I want to set up some forums for my website. My webhost is pretty flexible as they allow anything ranging from CGI to SSI. The forums can either be :

- Externally hosted (kinda like Ezboards where I just sign up, make the forums and edit the various settings)
or
- Internally hosted (like UBB).

The forums have to be free (too poor to pay $200 for a forum license 🙂). They also have to be easy to set up (I don't wanna learn some advanced scripting language like Perl just to set up a forum). I'd prefer an externally hosted messageboard (since they are usually really easy to set up) but I'm willing to learn how to set up an internal based messageboard.

Thanks alot in advance!

Cool. Anymore free boards? Any good boards that are externally hosted? Also, I do not wish to use Ezboard as they have those annoying popups and my clients would not like them.

don't know of any good hosted boards but as mentioned, phpbb is great and also so is ikonboard if you don't have php installed on your server.

Do a search on this, you will find a couple threads *ATLEAST* on this topic. You will find responses that include: phpbb, scoop, slashcode, and phpnuke.

Well if you are trying to appease clients, maybe you should dig down deep and buy a decent messageboard software. Do you do business websites and have them stuck out on geocities?
