What are some good/evil computer tricks/hacks, windows can even be reloaded.

I am in a computer maintance class this year, not because I am in there to learn, I just need the two credits and a blow-off class to do homework and sleep in. But we finally got a copy of windows 98 installed on all of the computers until the school district gets around to purchasing a legal windows 2000 sight license. So, I can do just about anything to these computers I want, though I might have to reload windows 98 in necessary, but that is not a big deal. So what are some good software tricks to do to these computers, nothing that will somehow destroy the computers, so pretty much anything short of frying the bios:D Today I left the shortcut link for to restart the computer in the startup folder, so everytime the computer started it would restart. Took the guy teaching this class a while to figure out the dos commands to get to the folder and delete the shortcut, or so I was told. Also, I can load software on these computers, well no virii, and the computers are not networked together yet so programs like the old back orifice, or sub7 are out of the question for now atleast. But like I said, I can pretty much load any software I want on these, or do any software related stuff I want to. There is always the good old joke of loading a bunch of programs into the startup folder, or taking a screenshot of the desktop and setting it as the background, then hiding all the icons and start menu bar. But I am looking for some better/funner stuff to do. Some of the people in the class, are like me and are just taking it as a blow-off class, while others are there because they don't know much at all about computers and want to learn the basics. I have the class first/second periods and there are only 6 of us in there, while the 3/4 period class is larger, the the last class is also only like 5 or 6 people. So let me know what some good pranks would be.

Hey some of those tricks are pretty good. Now, how would I go about creating a link for the computer to restart?

Hehe, I already have Jezz-Ball loaded on the thing, very addicting game, unless you are thinking about some program that I don't know about. Just gotta lova the bouncing balls. I have it and 3 other games on a floppy, includes rodents revenge, cruel and some other game.

If only I could find my copy of the green wire frame tank game, that I have on a floppy someplace. Remembered about that one a little while ago, but can't seem to find it.

It is all part of the class, the instructor wants us to do this kind of stuff to see if the other students can figure out how to fix it. Besides, this is only on the computers that are only for this specific class, XP1700 systems, not in anyway connected to the schools network, no internet access on them. Heck, even the instrutor will be messing with the software all year, to see if we can figure out what he did, this class is meant to be a class that a person who doesn't know much about computers can come out of with a pretty good idea of how to fix a computer, rather it be software or hardware related. For me, a blow-off class, for others a class where they will actually learn something.

Sorry, but having a computer restart non-stop while the instructor of the class watches on in total confusion would be damn funny to see.

some things the nerds in the toner monkey class would pull before our Oracle DB sessions were:

unseat the cpu slightly

unseat an IDE cable slightly

unseat a power cable slightly

short the case open switch (reboot each time)

unplug the vga cable

dump a million programs in startup

turn the brightness down on the monitor

unplug the motherboard power

screw with the bios, flash it to something old.

and more....I would spend the beginning of class running around fixing my friends machines...

its all lame

He has said that we not mess with the hardware too much, even though everyone in the class built the computer they are using right now, well put it together, he just doesn't want to take to much of a chance of anything getting fried.

For restart put a shortcut with this path in the start up folder. C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2
If you want it to shutdown use this. C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE user.exe, exitwindows

You can also put a shortcut to every .exe on the computer in the startup folder.

If the computers have an NVIDIA card in them, the latest Detonator drivers allow you to actually rotate the screen. Turn it upside down and see how they react to it.

A classic - take a screen shot of the desktop, make it the wallpaper and hide the rest of the desktop icons and start menu. See how long it takes for them to figure it out.

I may have to look into the latest detonator drivers, but will it work with the so called fast, new video cards he bought none as TNT2 M64:Q

Would be great to see his expression when he saw the screen upside down, unfortunately I would be in a different class by then:D

you could always convince someone to del *.*. I have heard it is a great way to "search"

For those who aren't sure * is a wildcard. del=delete so del *.*=delete everything.everything

Jezzball came with the Windows Entertainment Pack AFAIK. It was part of the software pack my parents got with their P133 Gateway back in '96. That was a great game...
