I'm not sure what the proper name for this genre is, but it's got to be my favorite subtype of techno. Kinda like mixing classical and metal (i.e. Metallica S&M), I really like that too. Anyway, what are some good songs/groups for classical techno? Preferably something I can download off Kazaa. :)

There is no classical music in Orbital's Halcyon. That song is made with a beautiful sample from Opus III's "Its a Fine Day".\

"God moving over the face of the waters" by moby is all piano with some light synth. It may not be as heavy as you're looking for.

I have a techno remix to the main theme song of "phantom of the opera". It's actually pretty cool. Just type in "phantom of the opera techo" on kazaa, and you should find it.

On mp3.com, an artist titled "Minister" has a remake of Pachelbel's "Canon in D", which is excellent. Also, load up your favorite filesharing client and do a search for "classical techno", and you'll find some good stuff. There's techno versions of Beethoven's 5th and 9th, and others from Vivaldi and Mozart...

I like the genre, too.

There is a techno version of O' Fortuna out there. Also try Stranger In A Stange Land by Mysteries Of Science.

ATB had a decent remix of It's a Fine day from a few years back too.

Oakenfold's new cd has a HUGE sample of the Kronos Quartet, from the Requiem soundtrack. Pretty good song.

There isn't any classical music in either of those tracks, actually. They're decent techno tracks, just not quite what I'm looking for right now. I guess I should specify I'm looking for more *orchestral* classical music mixed with techno. I have Moby's "God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters" and that's close to what I want, but even more orchestral would be great. I'll check the other tracks suggested just as soon as my dialup connection will let me. :D

Eakers, what is hhc?

yeah, to reiterate what was said earlier, type "classical techno" or "classical remix" in your favorite file-sharing program and you should come up with something. Also "Beethoven remix", "Mozart remix", "Tchaikovsky remix" etc. etc. By doing this I've found a great trance Für Elise, a nice Moonlight Sonata, (my favorites) a Pachalbel's Canon and Vivaldi's L'inverno. But you also come up with some real crap too, like there's this one piece of a Mozart piano sonata that's not transformed at all except that it has a techno-ish drum track overlayed. (Somebody got really creative with that one.)

Also -- this is a really great track! -- if you know the track "Clubbed to Death" by Rob D. (from the Matrix soundtrack) it's essentially what you're talking about with the Enigma Variations by Elgar. Very beautiful piece to begin with, and wonderfully transformed into a pulsating techno-ish track by Rob D.

Also William Ã?rbit recently came out with an album completely of classical tunes played on his synth. Sometimes it's very hard to tell that they're not being played by full string orchestras! Anyway, there are quite a few remixes of these tracks (particularly Adagio for Strings by Barber). Search for "William Orbit Adagio remix" etc.

edit: guess: hhc=happy hardcore (never seen the abbr. before though)

Clubbed To Death is an awesome track, not quite what I'm talking about here, but still awesome.

Minister's version of Canon in D was pretty cool, I had never realized that was the wedding song.

The dance mix of Phantom of the Opera was pretty decent as well, although I could've done without the vocals.

I'm getting shivers just thinking about a techno mix of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. :D :D :D

More suggestions! I realize I can type in "classical remix" or something and get a bunch of stuff, but as bizmark pointed out, much of it will be crap and I don't have any way of downloading stuff quickly so I need to be selective.

I've seen two good "remix" versions of the 5th symphony. One of them is evidently a mix for an Atari game. Type "beethoven atari" or "beethoven jungle" and you might come up with it. It took quite a bit of searching for me when I got it (a while ago).

The other one is actually a disco mix by Walter Murphy, entitled "A Fifth of Beethoven". Not quite techno but very good nonetheless.

Search for "Mozart Master Mix Prodigy Groove" to get a decent mix of samples from several Mozart symphonies, sonatas, concertos etc. all mixed together along with some guy saying "Amadeus" and other words. Also "Mozart Master Mix Vivalogy". YGPM.

Might not fit the profile too well, but Chicane tends to make beautiful music that I would put somewhere between techno and classical. A perfect example would be the second track, "Low Sun" from Behind the Sun. Listening to it right now. This must be the most soothing music I have ever heard.
