what are some good areas to live in sacaramento

I got a job offer from a company in Sacramento, my office (if i take the offer) will be in downtown, near capitol house, what are some good areas to live in, looking to rent a 2 bedroom house.

Downtown, like near the capital... I think its like the lettered streets. But on the other side it gets bad (like behind downtown plaza). Lots of government people keep apartments there.

Other than moving to the suburbs (Granite Bay, Rocklin, Roseville) I'd say thats a nice area that's close. Sac does have some other decent areas too though. But watch out, some parts get not so nice very fast.

my parents live off vinyard and calvine road. kind of out there, but a nice area, and very new. granite bay = expensive. The pocket area is also very nice. stay away from south sac, florin road, MLK blvd, those are pretty ghetto. also lot of new developments in north sac near arco arena (natomas area). welcome to sac! 🙂

I live in North Natomas (near Arco Arena) and there are a lot of new nice apartments going in around here. Plus its like a 5 minute commute to downtown. 🙂

Hmm, freeways 99, and 50 are always crappy during rush hour. Both 5's are bad, although one of them is ok. I think north was the bad one. 80 gets bad during evening rush hour going east.

Check www.sacbee.com and it'll have crime statistics for most of the sacramento area.

Downtown is nice, but there is no real nightlife yet, and there is tons of car theft here (northern California). I think when I last checked, 100 was national average, 200 was twice that, and some places in downtown and others were at like 2000. Davis is kinda like the hippy area, 10 minutes west of it along 80, it?s a college town and nicer because so. I have no real recommendations aside from Davis, some areas of Elk Grove, east along the 80 once you get to the Citrus Heights, then Roseville areas are nice. Other then that, remember to check apartmentratings and the crime rates. Try craigslist for the sacramento area too.

i live in davis, i go to school there, and theft is a huge problem here too. but yeah, there arent many "bad" areas so to speak in davis. south of 80 near mace is one of them, but north and west davis are both pretty nice. i grew up in EG, so i dont have much bad to say about it other than it is verry crowded. streets arent big enough for the number of houses they have built.

Davis overall is a really nice area to live, and it's only 10 minutes in to Sacramento (in moderate traffic). It can be a bit pricey though because the school is there and housing is in demand. I'd highly recommend it as a community to raise a family in.

Land Park is one of the best areas to live in. also in the 35-50s (numbered Streets, not AVEs) between C and T are pretty nice and easy to get to downtown.
i live in land park, but on the edge.

first link is in the pocket area.. good area. West of I-5.. good!

the 2nd links are in ROCKLIN = those are like 30 miles east of downtown ATLEAST.

There are places like arden oaks, mid town areas are like between 65 and like O to about 18 and H

I will find you some places.. i live in sac. Do you want an apt, condo,.. what?
My apt i like, its by sac.state, pretty safe. Its called Rivercrest village. They just redid it. 2bd/2ba for about 1000/mo. Roseville will be closer than rocklin. Carmichael is good, folsom is good, orangevale is good, fairoaks is okay i guess depend on where in fairoaks.

those are cities by teh way. Stay away from rancho cordova unless you are in teh good areas.

Depends on how long of a commute you want. If you lived in Citrus Heights you're looking at 25 mins each way, whereas if you lived in Arden-Arcade it might only be 15.

I work in Old Sac and if you're going to be working in downtown, you might as well live in downtown because it'll be difficult (and expensive) to park downtown.

Stay away from the Florin Road area...

are you talking about the first apt I posted, I see a florin road in the map

I am going to be in Sac before I join to have a look at apts, I want to make a shortlist of communities in good areas I should go look at, HR of my company is going to help me but ATOT always comes through 😉

I was making a general statement, and didn't check the map. From when I lived in that area about 15 years ago, I recall the Florin Road area as being predominantly "ethnically-challenged", and the news often reported on violent crimes in the area.

if anyone remembers when The Good Guys was taken hostage and they had a shootout a long time ago, that was the one on Florin Road 🙂

bump for more replies, plan to go down and see a few apartments soon, want to know which areas I should look at.

This is a newer area that is building up. It's a short, straight shot down I 5 to downtown. If I had to live in that cesspool that is Sac, again. I'd check out this area.
