I managed to break my wrist the one and only time I have ever been snowboarding (never tried skiing). It was somewhat of a warm stretch and it was raining that day, so there was little real snow left and the fake snow had become like kernels of corn thanks to the rain. In addition the slopes were very icy in general and I apparently have the balance of a one legged chicken.

I started to gain a little steam, had a halfway decent stretch of good form going but I was angled right towards a jump. Fine, I didn't panic, I just knew I had to turn. Okay, why can't I turn? I don't know why I wasn't able to turn - it was something weird with the hill, but it was not really feasible for me to turn (I think I had gone into a dip and to turn away from the jump would have meant going uphill a little). So fine, I'll just stop - no problem right? Wrong, it's hard to dig into the hill when you're on ice and those f'ing kernels so I try pulling up on the front of the board to stop and it just slid out from under me. I go flying backwards (horizontal to the ground I would bet) and landed on my damn wrist. Fortunately it wasn't the arm I write with.

The only good part of it was the toboggan ride down the hill from the ski patrol. :) That rocked.

You'll walk away from more on Skis than on a Snowboard.

Just be careful.... gradually push yourself, don't just say: "fsck it" and go nuts... pace yourself.
