What are some Christian prophecies that didn't come true?

The world has been said to end "soon" since humans first dreamt up religions that said the world could end in some grand apocalypse. It was supposed to end in the time of the Aztecs, in the time of the Incas.

Other fun things: the world was supposed to end when the year changed to 2000. Question was, would it do it by time zone? Would Earth begin vanishing in discrete slices? Why should those deities in charge of the end care about our time zones? If not, what time is it, really?

The world will end. 5 billion years from now, when the sun goes supergiant. Or rather, it'll be well-baked. It'll still be here, but just as a cold round rock, orbiting a white dwarf star, inside of a planetary nebula.

actually, one of the south american civilizations predicted the destruction of a certain city... and it has occurred every X years (every few hundred, and their prediction was right)

Didn't you know? There are no false Christian prophecies. Any prophecies that you suspect may be false either were not prophecies in the first place or may still come true some unspecified time in the future.

Christians have been saying the world is going to end for a very long time (y2k ring a bell?), each time one of those moments comes to pass that it was supposed to happen, they cite some other far away future date and then it all repeats again.


If you keep saying it for long enough it may come true one day just out of sheer chance but if it does come true then no ones going to be around to point and say "ah ha, I told you so!" so it's all very pointless to even debate in reality.

A good example of this is if you go riding around some religious part of the country like the bible belt that I happen to live in, when you go through the bad road mountain parts you see signs that say "the end of the world is near" or "the 2nd coming is near" or whatever else but these signs are so damn old that they've literallyrotted half away and those claimed dates have come and past long ago.

Just my opinion though.

Sorry, but I've gotta go with the Mayans before I go with the Christians as far as the world ending. They were predicting solar and lunar eclipses hundreds of years before the Christians ever realized that the Earth isn't the center of the universe. And, the Mayan calendar ends soon... yeah... I don't know any Christians who thought the world would end in the year 2000...

anyways, there aren't too many Christian prophecies, unless you mean Jewish prophecies

I'm rather perplexed as to why y2k & Christianity are tied myself. Always thought Y2K was supposed to be a tech disaster, not the end of the world.

Edit: and I don't think any Christian texts (read: Bible... I know, I know, but /shrug, you can't really use much else) stated the world was the center of the solar system. I realize religious leaders at the time condemned the theory (and the man behind it), but then its the people you don't like, not the religion (ala Gandhi's famous quote).

A lot of christian apocolypse theories have been stated and found false, but most of the time by extremist, so those shouldn't really be counted.

I'm sure there a lot of false prophecies, but Christian can just say the event is indefinately delayed.

My boss is one of the religious wacko types that goes to a church where they pass out when they get breathed on (slain in the Spirit). First he says only Christians have the power to make prophecies, then later he said the Mayans, who were not Christians in his book, have the date right for the end of the world.

You're forgetting that he came in peace as the humble lamb of God the first time, but will return as Judah's lion the second time.
