What are some artist that you like?

I am bored and so I've decided to start a thread about the fine arts. I have always loved surrealist works like Magritte's (one of my favorite artist btw) and abstract things, but I am more impressed with the skill it took to make those old Renassainse type things. I don't know the proper genres (guess I'll have to do some research on google tonight) but as an artist (somewhat, I've been drawing and painting for 18 yrs now, but I do it only for the fun. And no, I don't draw DBZ) I have to appreciate the time it took to make them.

I also look not only at the technical side of the painting, but the underlying meaning as well. That's where my favorite Rene Magritte comes in. I actually painted his "Son of Man" painting on a ceiling tile at my school. I have been searching around tonigt and I found Maxim Federov. Take at look at some of his stuff, it's great. I like the one with the pyramid and the moon, and I think I may look for a print to spruce up my dorm.

What are some artist that you like? I am interested in seeing all sorts of things. I know ATOT has to have some artsy types .

YES! DJ Tiesto, Sasha and Digweed, ATB, but my favorite is Paul Van Dyk. Stuff like that; Gatecrasher and Radio1 Essential Mix collections too.

I wonder what the meaning is?

I have also had paintings that leave a lasting memory from when I was a child. It doesn't have to be anything big, gawdy, or famous. The simplest things are sometimes the best. Take Juan Miro, I have no idea what this painting means, but it really captivates you in a way that most of the extravagant paintings can't.

While not under the realm of "fine art", I happen to like the paintings of Michael Whelan. He does/did cover art for a number of sci-fi books, and a google search will reveal a number of sites with galleries. If you're an avid sci-fi reader, you might recognize a lot of his art.

I have drifted away from the "art scene" for some time but keep finding myself returning to visual art.

I'm particularly fond of the Abstract Expressionists and Outsider art. I have a difficult time appreciating art that isn't abstract. Not that I dislike it. I can appreciate the effort, but don't really see "the point" of re-creating an image of something exactly as it appears. I think it is far more challenging to create something that the artist sees that maybe no-one else can see (or wouldn't see).

I have taken to sketching/drawing (again) the past couple of months and participate in a "draw club" that meets weekly (with a model). Perhaps I'll scan something and post it if people seem interested.
