What are signs of dead MB or a dead CPU?

I have a MSI k7t Pro2 and the D-Led's hang at step two, memory initialization. the computer gets juice and the fans spin (even cpu fan which gets power from MB) but the comp doesnt POST. i never get a bios screen on monitor. its not a PWS as I already fixed that.

Would this be like a dead MB?

A bad CPU, VCard or Memory will result in no flash screen or boot. Did you test those, as well?

any beep codes? have you tried with memory out, and nothing else connected on the board? I see a lot of systems that won't post because their modem got fried, and they thought it was their mobo.

Try removing the RAM & see if it beeps. Then put it back in & try booting it up without a video card and see if you get a beep code. If you can get a hold of another CPU, try the same with that (or try your CPU on another board).

From what you explained its either a bad board or CPU. I'd bet on the board. Testing it with a different CPU or testing your CPU on another board will help determine which it is.

thanx for teh replies. i took it to someone else who swapped out the cpu's and he said it still didnt work. I swapped with memory modules to see if one of them was the cuplrit (i have 3 dimms). he said it was the mobo. i am going to try putting in a pci vid card i have instead of my ati when i get the chance.

I have one of them in my basement right now that have the same results you are experiencing.
Time for a new motherboard.
I would try and replace the battery in the mobo first.

can i pick up a 3 volt battery anywhere? or is this a special pain in the goose kinda battery?
