what are safe temps for my E8400 ??? Currently its 63C?

I OC'd my E8400 to 4.0Ghz voltage 1.360V in CPUZ and my temps are underload right now while prime is running are 64C in CPUID? Are these safe temps ? Also i dont know what to trust since speedfan is showing me 55C and my DFI Smart Guarding is showing 54C ? Right now im prime stable for over 7 hours and still runing. Im some what uncomfortable with these temps since i dont know which are safe.

I think these CPUs are reading incorrectly - what temp do you see in your BIOS? My Xeon e3110 idles at 43 in Windows, but in BIOS it's 29 which seems more correct since the heatsink is cool to the touch.

way lower around 25C or something in idle, im also using Thermalright Ultra 120 Exteme for cooling and 120mm Scynth fan thats attached to it.

yeah, these E8400s (don't know what % of them) have to be incorrectly read or have a bug on their end...or both. Core temp will be around 38C idle and 60C load on my TRUE, yet the BIOS will report under 10C idle and ~30C load. I wish that were true...I know my room is cold (we keep the heat at turned all they way down - down, not off ) but it sure as hell isn't close to freezing temps...and while I know the TRUE is an awesome air cooler it certainly isn't magical

My BIOS gives me an option to adjust temps +or- 15C, but even adding the maximum 15C would give incredibly awesome temps...

Basically you wouldn't want to go above 65ºC or so, at load of course, higher than that and at least in my book it's a signal for frequency reduction. Luckily my OCZ Vendetta keeps it below 55ºC at 3.74Ghz under load (19 hours in Orthos), and the room ambient is 26.5ºC exactly.

mine tops out at ~63C under full load also , 440*9 1.36v useing an ultima 90 w/120mm sflex

Bottomline.....that is prime....Do you run prime95 as your main application on your machine? I doubt it....so dont worry about it...It means you likely wont hit 60c on any real world app....

"cool to the touch" heatsinks dont always mean what you think...A cool to the touch heatsink could mean the heatsink is not making proper contact for maximum thermal transfer. I would rather have the heatsink warm, which means it is pulling the heat away from the chip...I guarantee even at idle no modern processor is cool to the touch...so where is the heat going to....



I am not saying which of your temps is correct or not, just that I wouldn't ever think all is rosy because the heatsink is cool to the touch....

Also I haven't see one bios be correct since the days of thermal temps being measured at the core....

I agree it is not likely your temp for air cooling would ever be lower then ambient case temp, which in best of world is 2-3c higher then room temp....Unless your room is 50f which is 10c I doubt those temp severely...

I would expect actual idle temps for non voltage adjusted dual cores to be in the 24-27c at best assuming nice 68-72 comfort zone climate. Any vcore adj over stock goes up from there...
