Are you asking for a choice of HSF?

If you're interested in OC limit under air-cooling, I currently go with this:

While performance here is extremely strong, we also haven't even touched on the overclockability of Conroe; from what we've seen, hitting above 3.5GHz on the highest end parts isn't too far fetched on air cooling alone. The absolute highest we've seen on air is 3.8GHz from a Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor. By the time Conroe officially launches, we'll be able to provide a full set of performance tests but so far we're seeing even more data to support the idea that Intel really has a winner on its hands.

3.5GHz on air would be like 2.7~2.8GHz to dual-core Opterons, is my guess.

Edit: Oh it's about HSF. Why don't you post @C&C forum? You may get better inputs.

Becuase it is about ocing and what future Conroe users are thinking about...Ultmately they will be in here...

I am concerned about coolers like the towers and how much torque they exert on the mobo when they extend out 145-150mm...which is ~6 inches

I can testify that my A8N32 has been fine with Tuniq 120 for the past 6 months, then.

I'll be re-using my XP-90 with a Panaflo M1A. Conroe is suppose to sip wattage, so I'll see how my XP-90 works before I buy better cooling. I plan to buy a lower end Conroe for HTPC use, and XP-90 fits the compact and silent categoty.

My stock Opteron heatpipe cooler with a 92mm fan is able to keep my X2 3800+ @2.5Ghz on stock voltage. I have CnQ turned on as well.

I will start with my 9500LED.
If that doesn't work out, I'll buy the Tuniq tower!

I'll be using my scythe Ninja, if it can keep my 805 @55c at 3.6ghz, it should have no trouble handling a Conroe.

I can say after testing certain nameless processors for the past few weeks, Tuniq 120 would be my first choice. ;)

I wonder if an Alpha designed for a P4 478-pin cpu would fit on this? If not, I supposed I would live with the stock cooler for a while.

If I can get 3GHz out of a E6600, I will be more than satisfied. No need for Tuniq Tower in my future I suspect. I may go with some sort of large copper/large slow moving fan type thing. Maybe a Skive type heatsink. From what I have seen, 3GHz is a snap and should still run cool on air.

Tuniq Tower is about the best but impossible to get these days. (it's also massive in size and weight)

Scythe Mine and Scythe Ninja are the next best thing. (only about 2 degrees difference using same fans at 100% speed).

The Scythe "twins" actually beat the Tuniq Tower at lower fans speed. (5 degrees better at 50%).

The Ninja and Mine are tied in performance when using the same fan. However there are other considerations. The Ninja's fan retention design is a joke (2 bent paper clips and the fan hangs off the edge and intrudes into the DRAM area). The Mine is like the TT design where the fan is in the core of the HSF. The Mine also has a superior socket 775 mounting system. (no MB removal needed). The only reason to use Nija is for passive. Scythe recommends Ninja for passive and Mine for active.

P.S. If your case has the depth, replace the Mine's 100mm fan with a YL 120mm.

I'm not going to upgrade to Conroe right away, but when I do I'll just be using the Big Typhoon I currently have.
