You might want to fine tune your resume I suppose? Plus, job market is not that good. I still feel the job search engines do a really good job.

CB's search pretty much blows.....that's my one gripe about CB.....that and their resume "builder" - last time I checked you couldn't just upload your WORD resume in, which is a major PITA

CareerBuilder and Dice are more technical in nature. HotJobs is a growing site, kind of second to Monster.

What job are you shooting for? Go with sites associated with your job.

CollegeRecruiting.com
TelecomCareers.net
DiversityInc
ZillionResumes
Craigslist

When I was looking, I got consistent responses through craigslist, monster, and hotjobs. The job I got was thanks to monster.

Best advice is really to apply to positions yourself via the actual company websites. Coming from somebody in Recruiting here.

Posting your resume on these job sites is really useless. Using these sites to farm potential employers and tailor your resume and cover letter to that employer emailing it directly works far better.

If you just rely on hanging your resume out to dry there, all you'll get is spam asking you to sign up for recruiting services, most of which are fee based.

Agreed.

That and don't even try to search for a job as MOST of the listings are spam, junk, scams, etc... So for every 1 real job you will have to go through 2 or more pages of junk. I juts gave up using them.

They MIGHT be usedull if they would not allow scam, junk, etc... listings and actually cared about what is posted at their site, but I have not found on elike that yet.

Always cross reference the listing on a job site to the actual employer's website also. There are a lot of headhunters and staffers that post listings to farm resumes out there. Another good tip is that if the listing ONLY allows you to respond/send a resume through the listing site, well, don't even bother.

I must admit however, they do occasionally work. On thursday I opened up Monster.com, saw a listing that made me curious. I cross referenced it with the employer's website, and retrieved an email address from their site directly. I tailored my cover letter template, send it and my resume off late thursday afternoon. Friday evening when I got home I had an email waiting - not one of the canned response "we got your resume, we'll call you if we want to" ones either. An actual physical person had taken the time to email me back stating the he had reviewed my resume, and wanted to set up a time for a phone interview on wednesday.

So, I'll be chattin with the guy on wednesday. :)
