My current spec: -

AMD AthlonXP 1800+ O/Ced @ 1900MHz (9.5 X 200 FSB)
Abit NF7-S rev. 2.0
1GB DDR RAM (Single piece)
GeForce 4 Ti4200 128MB DDR
17" LCD running 1280 X 1024

I would like to play games at resolution of either: -

1. 1024 X 768
2. 1280 X 1024

For AA & AF...maybe at least 2AA/4AF or if my option allowed me...4AA/8AF.

What's my best bet for a VGA card upgrade from my current Ti4200 ?

If it were me, i'd start saving for a system upgrade, but in the meantime a 6600Gt would fit that system nicely.
I used to have a system almost the same as yours (1900+ instead of 1800+) and upgraded the VidCard from a ti4200 to a 9800Pro. It made quite a difference.

you need to upgrade you whole system basically...current games are really taxing including your cpu performance
so upgrade to a a64 3000+ at least and get the 7800 gt (most bang for bucks)
and you'd be good to go!!

M2 is just around the corner...which I think is worth waiting. My current O/Ced system is equivalent to a AthlonXP 2600+. So would my system be a bottleneck if I chip in a a 6600GT ?

What about X700 pro ?

Need some view here. Q's: -

1. So would my system be a bottleneck if I chip in a a 6600GT ?

2. I was also looking @ an AGP 6800 series. Would the CPU be a bottleneck as well ?

3. If my CPU is indeed a bottleneck...wht's the best range of VGA card I should be looking at ?

It's important tht I get some feedback from you guys. It will be my last upgrade on AGP platform.

a 6800 would be pretty useless at with that CPU. The 6600GT might be held back by you CPU but not by a whole lot, and at its price I would say its a pretty good buy.

The 6600GT is a good upgrade without getting too CPU limited. Anything more (like a 6800GT/X800XL class card) and you'd really be better suited by upgrading your system.

Doesn't a 9800Pro beat out the X700Pro?? Anyways, for $20 more you can get a 6600GT, which will destroy the X700Pro.
EDIT: My mistake, looks like the X700Pro is pretty decent!!!
