What are my chances of getting $$$ back from bad ebay deal?

on feb 22 I won a bid on a guitar, I paid via PP CC, seller said she would ship asap. Well, she shipped on march 1st and I got a tracking # from USPS which only says:

Your item was processed and left our SAN DIEGO, CA 92186 facility on March 1, 2009. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later

It still says this. I get an email from ebay this morning saying:

We're writing to let you know that the listing for the following item you bid on has been removed:

(info removed by me)

We strongly recommend that you do not complete this purchase. Purchases of items listed on eBay but then completed outside of eBay are extremely risky. They are not covered by eBay buyer protection programs and are highly susceptible to fraud.

So I go to ebay and look up the seller and I get a Seller is no longer registered with ebay.

So naturally I email seller from email addy from PP and file a claim with PP and escalate it.

So, really, what are my chances I will see a dime back ot the guitar?

It used to be that if the seller shipped a package, you were SOL. It could be a package of air, just as long as they shipped something.

But stuff like this is why I don't use ebay. Its like playing Russian Roulette with your checkbook.

Did you do the deal outsite Ebay? If you bid on the item and paid for it with PP then your chances are good. I have 250 ebay trades as a buyer and seller. Ive gotten money back from people in China, so you CAN do it.

Right now the USPS has yet to deliver the item. If you get it, then its over. If you dont get it, then you have to follow up with them first. Have you done that? Otherwise just follow the normal claim process.

No, I bid on the guitar and won (only bidder actually) and paid with PP. USPS has not updated the info since march first and IMO I think its a PP generated thing where the seller plans to ship and gives out the info to the USPS. I will wait and see. I already found her full name and address and phone number (love being a network engineer🙂 ) So the waiting game starts.

This is exactly what USPS tracking says: (except I put in the Xs)

Label/Receipt Number: XXXX 1288 8230 0623 2057 XX
Status: Processed

Your item was processed and left our SAN DIEGO, CA 92186 facility on March 1, 2009. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later

Whos facility? I found no post office in that area code so I think its from her facility(job, inc. whatever) seems like only the label was generated. Weird cuz she had a 100% rating and was a member for just over 4 years.

To be fair the USPS tracking system sucks. It usually doesn't update for me until after it arrived at my house. I'd say give it 14 business days and if it hasn't' arrived then you may have a case.

That's all the info you need, right there.

Don't wait for PP to get off their lazy ass and refund your money - file a nonreceipt claim with your CC immediately - on the phone - and explain the eBay notification & account closure as evidence (may have to provide emails to your CC).

If you're with one of the better banks they will refund your $166 and go after PP/buyer themselves.

The CC is from PP. Its that PP online credit shit. So all $$ transaction is with PP.

Why not? Its not a physical CC, its a 1200 credit I can use when I buy from ebay. I pay off fully every month so no APR. I mostly use my bank card but decided to use this occasionally.

Where's your recourse? At least with CC you can do a chargeback to paypal.

If you do that, you will violate PP TOS and lose your ability to use PP forever.

Wow, that's just awful. How will you ever live without the ability to use PP if you do a chargeback?

+infinity

Using PayPal without a real Credit Card is like banging on old, worn-out hooker without a condom.

I did once have a printer shipped via Parcel Post arrive ~two months after I ordered it on eBay. By then I'd already filed a dispute with PayPal. The seller had called me a "lying, thieving asshole" and told me to "go fuck myself" when I filed the dispute after 30 days, soI just kept it.
