I'm going to be buying a reciever and speakers. What is ideal?
I'll be buying these from Best Buy..
 
BTW,

You will get a lot of Bose animosity. Anyone that really knows speakers knows that for the money they are very poor performers. At least anything they've made in recent years. You could use that difference in dollars to get a nicer receiver, etc to run your speaks.

I think Yamaha makes some good receivers, although they do sound a bit bright with Klipsch to my ear.
 
Klipsch is teh best outta that bunch
Jbl and yamaha are next in that order bose is way behind in last. personally i just dont like bose, too pver proced the only thing they are good for is makeing tiny speakers that sound good, if you want speakers that you cant see then get bose
 
Do you have to shop at Best Buy? Goodguys has better audio stuff IMO, Energy speakers are great entry level audiophile.
 
Of the choices you offered, Klipsch is the only one I'd consider (MAYBE JBL) . Better brands to consider would be:
Paradigm, Energy, B&W, Polk

Of course, these wouldn't be found in Best Buy (then again I stay away from BB for other reasons, but that's another thread...)




 
Klipsch by far, you might try solutions from infinity, if they're in your price range...and best buy sells them?

If you're getting a receiver, go with Kenwood. My family has used these since "the day" and they've always been great. Quality over quantity sometimes, and you get better results. I bought a 500W RCA receiver, pretty nice, but now it doesn't work and I'm back to a used Kenwood from my dad ('95 model 🙁 ). Still pumps the volume through two floorstanding Marantz speakers though.

Energy is great, as others have mentioned. But I'd look into Infinity/Klipsch.

they're a bit bright with regular speakers, i'm surprised you're not ear-fvcked after hearing them hooked up to a klipsch!
 
It's hard to beat Klipsch...I had a 'expensive' but still entry-level type of HT setup with Definitive Technology BP20's, BP10's and a CLR1000 center (I think it was like $3k+ for the setup) and then 'downgraded' to a pair of used Klipsch Quartets and Academy center (which I sold for $175 when I had no space to put it in my apartment setup not knowing how impossible it is to replace) and the sound quality is awesome. I can get realistic movie reproduction and great stereo imaging.

Bose is a consumer 'favorite', the sound is not terrible, but you are paying a big markup for the name. NHT, PSB, etc offer book shelf type speakers with majorly improved sound for the same money or less. Bose is appealing to the 'I don't want to see the speakers' crowd.

Budget would be the biggest help and also how many speakers are you looking for?

I just ripped my Bose speakers out of my car last week. Those were the worst sounding speakers EVER! Totally cheap POS made with paper cones. I love the way car cos boast they have Bose systems while most people don't realize they make the biggest POS. Unfortunately, I had to take the Bose package because I wanted the other options for my car. The Bose stereo is the absolute worst too. Something like 200 watts driving 6 2 ohm speakers and a 2 ohm sub.
 
Klipsch, Polk, JBL, Boston Acoustics

You should be able to find something you like out of that list. Avoid Bose, terribly overpriced and overrated, their stuff wouldn't be worth buying at half the price.

Klipsch.

This recommendation comes from the experience of owning the Promedia 5.1's.

Best sounding computer speakers I've ever heard.

These are for a stereo not a PC.

In my opinion, I'd save the money and get some B&Ws for a little more.
