What are chances that Amazon closes newly unionized warehouse?

How likely do you think it is that Amazon will shut down the unionized warehouse?

I was just reading that workers at the Amazon Staten Island warehouse voted to unionize. Back when walmart's meat butchers voted to unionize, they simply shut down their stores butcher departments and outsourced all of that work.

What do you think the chances are that Amazon will respond likewise, shutting down the unionized warehouse,
to send a message to folks who might unionize at their other warehouses?

They could, although right now businesses are struggling to find workers like those so the workers have a lot of leverage. If Amazon closes it they can just go find another job. Can Amazon keep finding new workers though?

And can Amazon afford to throw vital NYC warehouses under the bus? It's not like there is an abundance of warehouse space in the city to deliver to all those potential customers.

There's little chance Amazon will close the warehouse. They opened all those warehouses across the country to support their 2 day Prime shipping. It's more likely automation will reduce the # of bodies over time. But we all know that was gonna happen any way.

If Amazon closes that warehouse as a direct response to their employees being unionized there I suspect the fallout from doing that is going to cost Amazon more than if Amazon bargains in good faith with their employees there.

I will cancel my subscription with them the moment they do that and take my online purchases elsewhere. "Free shipping" (whatever I save in shipping after membership dues) can only go so far toward inducing me to stay. Associating Amazon with Walmart and their oppressive employee policies is not going to help Amazon increase their customer base.

Workers at a Walmart Canada Corp. store in Quebec voted to join a union in 2004.

Six months later, Walmart Canada shut down the store, claiming it was unprofitable.

It took years, but the formers workers won a Supreme Court ruling in 2009 that said Walmart Canada illegally close the store.

Walmart is staunchly anti-union and goes to great lengths to discourage pro-union activity.

I'm actually surprised Amazon warehouses and delivery drivers aren't all unionized. (or mostly unionized)

Ah, I didn't think of that. So they may not 'close' the warehouse, but they COULD decide to make it their first experiment in deciding to completely automate/roboticize a warehouse..... getting rid of all but supervisors & robot maintenance.

Supervisors and robot maintainers too might unionize. The only company that can afford to throw unionized locations under the bus is, "The Trump Orginization". All Trump does is swindle banks via their loans if he needs money to open another location.

They would have to walk a very narrow tight line to be able to legally close down the warehouse due to them unionizing, otherwise, it will be illegal. Which most likely would only be legal if they shut down their entire warehouse operations (all warehouses) in the state.

Why did you ask such an idiotic and stupid question to a reasonable question? What or why did you think this thread displays any hatred for workers?

You are a right wing consumptionist, think about that for awhile and ask yourself why YOU post idiotic and stupid posts to almost everything that doesn't fit your narrative. You are a grade A asshole.

Finally you reply to one of my comments. Jackass.

Yes they do.

I don't know where grenadier has been for the past 2 decades on union decline, but he continues to show his ignorance.

You been alive through Newt Gingrich, John Boehner and subsequent leaders terms?
Unions have been legislatively castrated for years. Thank the R's for it.

Supervisors won't Unionize, WTF have you been for 20 years, Maintenance, well Amazon won't hire former Union members, anecdotal evidence here.

In this day and age?

Thank you

Depends on the individual State's labor laws.

Depends on the individual State's labor laws.
It violates federal laws, specifically those covered in the NRLA, has nothing to do with individual state labor laws. State labor laws do regulate if it's legal or not in that state to require union membership as a condition for employment. That has nothing to do with closing up shop in retaliation for unionization.
