Guilty Gear is popular in some markets, with Marvel vs Capcom 2 being a tourney staple, along with SNK vs Capcom (Chaos)...shooting games are still decently big, with a new Area 51 coming out in the fall or thereabouts.

I wish I lived in SoCal or an area with a good fighting game scene...I'd love to watch the great players and learn...and for those keeping up, Evolution 2004 should be great :D

I miss arcades too....but one of the last Arcades we had here, some Dumb @$$es started ganging around them and one day they pulled out the guns and started shooting. #@*@*#@( :madfawk:

Well I think Dave and Busters and Jillians are doing ok, only because they serve alcohol as well. However, the arcade games themselves at these places just don't capture my attention. They charge you more for less time, w/o the important addiction factor. If I know I just spent $1 for 5 min. of play time, there's no way I'm gonna spend another dollar. Gimme the old days where all I had to do was drop a quarter in for 3 min. of gametime (since I sucked at arcade games), and I'll likely spend much more money w/o realizing it.

DDR is pretty much dead.

Arcades just dont have their place anymore because all of their games are quickly ported to the systems. 10 years ago, the picture was quite different.

Initial D on the otherhand is a very good arcade game than is not represented well in home systems.

I was driving around and noticed a few new 'arcade' signs popping up in stripmalls in the area. As I had not recognized a resurgance in arcade populartity I thought it quite unusual. I even posted a thread about it a few mo's ago. As no one could answer what else it may be besides the obvious, I decided to check it out.

Turned out they are video gambling / slot machine shops. Oddly, gambling is illegal in FL (unless on an indian reservation) so they do not have cash prizes. Yet the time I stopped in to check it out (lunchtime) it was freakin packed w/ people. So, either they have some workaround to the cash prize thing OR it's illegal gambling going on.

I dunno, I just wanted to see what it was, have't been back, really don't care if people want to throw money away at those places. Still annoyed they call it an arcade though. :)

The top money making arcade machine of all time is rarely found in arcades. Golden Tee is as popular as ever and has become the top earner of all time. PGA Tour is another golf game that offers monthly tournaments and cash prizes to players using a similar model to Golden Tee.

In the next month or two, GlobalVR (makers of PGA Tour) are releasing their new Madden machine. They have plans to have it online with monthly tournaments with cash prizes modeled after the GT and PGA system.

I personally make $50 - $300 a month off the monthly Golden Tee tournaments.
