what applications do you use to look for hardware errors?

just wondering what tools you all would reccomend?

memory checkers, hard disk scanners, etc

well actually I was thinking windows tools. I don't always feel like installing linux to do a system test

memtest86 is a bootable floppy.

And you don't need to install Linux, there are cd only distros and 'rescue' distros out there.
