How would you pronounce China?

/me examines the word china.

/me finds a lack of the letter 'R'

/me decides not to end the word on an R sound 🙂

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pronunciation nazi or anything, I understand how every variant of langauge has its own eccentricities, it just gives me a laugh is all with the Chiner, Asiar, etc. I'm sure there's half a dozen or more things you could think of that Americans pronounce in ways that seem strange or humourous to you.

a lot of people seem to think that the word "across" has a "T" (or -ed) on the end, and they can often be heard as saying, stupidly, "It is acrosst [or maybe "accrossed"] the river."

This one has bugged me the most in recent years.

but other than that, mostly ridiculously stupid spellings that make no sense:

foetus
colour
favour
etc...

The Deutsche Mark has been replaced by the Euro, but a local newsreader once pronounced it as douche mark. She went on with the story but the other newsman just looked down and tried not to laugh.

Haha genius.

This thread is winning already.

Sure but I don't understand how a word ending with an e sounds could not sound like it has an r after it as it trails of.

A douche mark is one of those tribal tattoos that goes around your bicep isn't it?
