what amount of money would it take for you to never work again?

Probably about five hundred thousand. I can live pretty well on 15-25k a year, so that much would probably keep me going until my death...assuming I don't hang on a long time.
 
depends on the return i could get on my savings.
i'd like to have $30,000 cash a year.
say 2 million, blow a bit on nice house and a car. then put 1.5 million in the bank earning 3%. that should cover it.
 
To never work again, I would need enough money to keep myself busy. What am I supposed to do all day? If you're not working, you're going to be out doing something else that is going to require money, so you would need to make more per year off the amount than you would at your current job. How much that would be, I don't know.

How much could you reasonably make per year off $10 million?
 
3 million would be about right, assuming it's all tax free... that would give me 50K/year from now till I'm 90, even if I just kept it all under my mattress.

that said, mentally, I don't think I could retire today. after a month, I'd be bored out of my skull and the money I'd have to spend to keep myself occupy would burn through that 50K/year pretty quickly.

Say if you can earn a meager 5% interest per year then 3 of that 5% back into the principal to account for inflation each year you'd have $80,000 per year plus 3% raises yearly until you die.
 
None.......I could live comfortably on $300,000 but I would continue to work otherwise I'd be bored, besides if I was home all the time the wife would have a list of shit to do that would never ever end.

Every city has a bad part of town. Go live there. Or you can sublet a room of somebodys house. Put your mind to it. You can do this if you try.
