What Americans think about Europeans?

I don't have any strong postive or negative thoughts about Spain, though some people on my wifes side of the family were not amused by some of the Olympic teams from Spain.

To be honest, not much. The only euro country that makes the news I watch is the UK. They seem to be exactly the same as the US but with more of a police nation and not as ethnically diverse.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa I hate those guys too... And the Dutch speak very strangely...

I have only been to Spain while in the Navy and that was in 1977 only 2 years after Franco died. I assume it is quite different now but I enjoyed the parts I saw of it.

I was in Spain once and got to experience this. The people were nice for the most part but try attending any of their sports games. These Spaniards live up to the definition of a hooligan.

Europeans:

The women, except for the British, are hot.

The men, except for some Germans, are annoying pansies who dress funny.

It's a line from an Austin Power's movie.

I think it was the basketball and tennis teams, who posed while making slit-eyed gestures.

Edit for grammar.

While I've never been to Spain, I have met many Spaniards while traveling in Europe and elsewhere. Everyone I've met has been very nice and just regular people. Whe I first got married, the wife and I considered relocating to Toledo and were very close to actually doing so. She had a job lined up there already but what nixed it was we were completely unsure of what I would be able to do there for a living.

We are decadents? cynics?... posh? or what? (not only negative 🙂)

I always thought Miguel Indurain was a class act.

I met a few Basques while traveling in Europe, and they seemed like nice people.

Dammed uppity Spaniards...speaking a foreign language and all...who the fuck do they think they are? 😉

Let's not forget the Spanish aggression of 400 or so years ago...Why if it weren't for those "dammed Spaniards", Mexico and several other countries in the "New World" woudn't be Spanish speaking countries, there MIGHT still be Incas and Aztecs around, and the world MIGHT still have some of the vast knowledge that the Spanish priests destroyed because it was in conflict with the "Church's Doctrine." Oh yeah, let's not forget all the tribes the conquistadors enslaved in their search for gold, silver, and gemstones.

HOWEVER, the few Spaniards I've met were good people. Warm, friendly, and open. (they still have that pesky accent and speak that funny language though!)

One more thing...you CANNOT lump all the countries in the Americas into one group and expect a common opinion. Each country is different, the people are different, and opinions will vary widely.

I love Spain. Been there twice for vacations and would happily go back. Nice people, great weather, cheap booze, and awesome food. What more could I ask for?

I don't think I can generalize in any way about an entire country of people, let alone an entire continent. One thing I do see is that it looks like the EU is coming into prominence on the economic and political front, and will edge out the U.S. in terms of influence so soon we'll be asking what Europeans think of Americans from the perspective of a lesser power.

if only that was true. tack 40% on everything you buy in Spain thanks to the exchange rate and nothing is cheap anymore. 🙁

I don't know, it still felt much cheaper than here when I was there last Summer.

I only have problems with Spaniards who lump residents of Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Argentina and the US as all American. 😀

Most Europeans are okay. A little stuck up and quick to look down their noses at others, I think, but basically okay. (Continentals that is, I think the English aren't that way).
