It has the same dimensions (16:9) as an HDTV, and resolution is CLOSE to HD, but it really is not *true* HD. It might have gotten good reviews because of picture quality, price, etc.

1024 x 768 is not 16:9.

Well, the specs say it's 16:9, so it probably has stretched pixels. All the more reason not to go for it.

Why do you want plasma or lcd? What makes you think one of those is better? Do you even know what DLP is?

They are better as they are not projection technologies. The new Samsung 1080p DLP does come pretty close, at least with the native 1080p feed I saw in BB this weekend.

Most 42" plasmas have rectangular pixels and are indeed 16x9.

Plasma is destined to go the way of betamax and the laserdisc. It is susceptible to screen burn in and the picture quality decreases dramatically with age. It gets dimmer and more washed out looking over time. Looks fantastic when new though. And they consume a LOT of power compared to LCDs. I'd steer clear of Plasma personally. But to each his own.

Repeating these myths over and over does not make them any more true.

If you can give up on wall mounting, Amazon has the 2006 model 46" 720p Samsung DLP HLS-4666 for $1,550 delivered.

yea cheaper low end stuff doens't have actual hd res. its a sad situation but won't last much longer with all the competition. as for hd ready.. if its labeled that it just means it can display the signal if fed it through a reciever. even if its downgraded for its display:p so thats rather meaningless.
course lower end crt hdtv's can't actually resolve full hd resolution either, they just don't have the phosphore dot density to resolve full detail. but its better than sd

Yes, it is on plasma. Also 1024x768 is TECHNICALLY HD. Not 100% HD, but technically it IS HD. And yes, this HDTV thing is complicated, but considering I've had HDTV for such a long time, it's a breeze for me :)

If it's 1024x768 rez, the pixels are rectangle and not square, so yes it is widescreen, as far as it being HD? It's classified as HD, but it all depends on who you ask.
