Questions for users of Dish and DTV:

How do your regular channels look? I know that is highly subjective, and based on your display, etc... but I have standard Dish and even on my 27" crt from 9 feet away I see artifacting on everything. I've switched it out once and it still looks the same.

I currently pay about $45/month for my SD Dish including DVR. I'd like to keep the bill as low as possible while still going HD. With Dish, I would pay $20/month more for HD, and possibly an upgrade fee. If I switch to DTV, I'm not sure how much a comparable package would be. How much are you folks paying?

EDIT I just did a quick online setup for DTV, it came out to $70/month, which is comparable to Dish HD. BUT the startup is $199 which is certainly higher than what Dish would make me pay.

EDIT 2: If they do in fact offer all those HD channels as listed above, then I could skimp and get the cheapest "family" package which has very limited SD content for $50/month. I don't think I'd be missing much if they do in fact offer all those in HD. I wonder if the package structure is going to change if/when the new HD channels roll out?

My SD channels look fine. Not as good as SD channels OTA but they're OK.

I'm currently paying about $90/month. But that includes Total Choice Plus, HD Service at $9.99/month, DVR service for $5/month, and five receivers at ~$5 each/month.

Call them and ask for a deal. It may take a couple of tries but you should be able to get free startup with the right CSR.

There's been no rumblings of DTV increasing their HD price beyond people saying, "Well DISH charges $20/month so DTV must be going to increase their fee too." I think DISH charges a premium on their channels because they incorporated VOOM into their programming. We'll have to wait and see what happens with DirecTV.
