To me, it is not how much you make, but how much you save for rainny days/have in your pocket AFTER you paid all the bills. Take a look at the stories about McMann, Hollyfield, how those guys made millions but now are in bankruptcy/foreclosure.

If I have to pick 100K and work 70-80 hrs vs. 50K and 40 hrs <IF ALL things are equal>, then I will pick 50K anytime, been there, done that. No one ever say in their dead bed..."Geez, I wish I could work more hours and make more money".

It is also depend on location. 100K in southern states around here <LA, TX, AR> is pretty damm good but in Southern CA or NYC areas is just so so.

 
eh. my parents are in their 50's and I'm pretty sure neither of them makes over 100K individually... I'm pretty ok with my 50K/year -- I enjoy my job and it's enough to pay the bills, what more could I ask for?
 
I must say that those of you who are saying that people who make lots of money do not have a life or are unhappy are wrong. I can give a very personal example from my family, my father is the VP of a big company and never have I felt that he has kept his work before his family or spent excessive amount of time at work while neglecting family. I think its just how a person balances work life and personal life. Also when you are young your body can take the abuse of hard work and you cannot do that when one gets older so if working hard initially pays of later then I see no problem with that. Its not the effort that is missing its the oppurtunity
 
The wife and I bring in around $62k a year combined. We don't have much savings, a house that we pay on every month, bills that pile up, expensive gas.....

But we have each other, AWESOME friends, have good times whenever we can, and generally love life. I laugh at those of you who are truly worried about your income as an barrier of entrance to having a "good" life.
 
when i get out in the field, i'll be making a fair amount of money... probably somewhere around $60-75k/yr starting off... whenever i start my own practice, though, i've got a business plan that could bring in somewhere around $200-350k/yr.
 
Never did, but was left enough so I'm good for life really. 3mil in Chase stock, 350k house paid off, both Infinities paid off and all debt gone...but I still dont make 100k.

Edit...just looked..it's only about 3 million on the stock.


Edit again...now thinking about it. Last yr I did 67k. This was without dividends I will be getting off stock....Still have not gotten my 1st one yet...grrr. Gram just died so things have been in probate and shit. So actually this will be my 1st yr over 100k.

what =I was either an International Man of Mystery or Sound Engineer for touring acts or both.
where = I'm world wide, or at least I was then. Earned more money out of the U.S. between '78 and '80 than I did in.

As for now, Well I was so much bolder then, when I was young.
Don't make as much, but my life is more full. and much less complicated....... to paraphrase Eric Burdon.
That's all you get for free. 😉
 
24...but i live in an expensive area so don't feel any richer than when i was living elsewhere making 1/3 less. New job (worked here almost a year) has much more growth potential though
 
heh. some people are lucky, while many other aren't. Unfortunately for many others, I was that lucky one. I broke 150k/yr salary when I was 19y/o. 6 years later (today), I am 25 and making close to a quarter mil.

EDIT: base salary pay. adding commisions + benefits + bonuses, about 400k

It is true that a healthy income does not entail a "good" life, but it sure does help.

I drive a 7 year old honda accord paid in full though. No GF ... this is ATOT right and still renting. Fvcking tax takes it all away pay tax whn u make maony pay tax when u spend money pay tax when buying a house and pay tax when u live in a house. Not that I am saying taxes are not imp for growth of society but sometimes it feels unfair.

word up man. I hear you. i am 1 year out of college, make a decent salary and started to notice the same thing. you are taxed on every single damn thing, sometimes even double taxed. i never realixed how much income tax you pay! this, and getting pulled over for going 5 over the limit or rolling a stopsign in the middle of nowhere, then pay a $200 fine for that.
 
i am 27, getting $72K a year, still owe $4000 in school loan and trying to get master this july. I guess by the time i am done with it, my debt will increase another $12K.

*sigh*

Probably when i am 30, i can get $100K
