And don't get me started on how anti-gun laws would have prevented this --

Bible Deflects Bullet aimed at teen

NORTH FORT MYERS, Florida (AP) -- Police said a mother shot dead her 6-year-old son Sunday, but another shotgun blast intended for his 16-year-old brother was absorbed by the teen-ager's Bible. <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://

Actually, I'd like to hear your take on how anti-gun laws would have prevented an obviously mentally ill mother from killing one of her children.

Are you so thick-headed as to actually believe that she only killed her child because she had a gun available? Do you honestly think that everything would have been fine for her and her children if we had stricter gun control?!? The lack of a firearm did not stop the other recent case like this where a mentally ill mother drowned several of her children...why on Earth should we assume it would have worked here?

You took that sentence all wrong. I don't think gun control would have stopped this at all. She didn't have a prior record.... she could have killed those kids any way she wanted. She just happened to choose a shotgun to do the dirty work. I'm a staunch supporter of the NRA and shake my head when I look at what gun control has done to the violent crime rates in Australia, Canada, and Britain. No, this would have happened one way or another... the shotgun wasn't the badguy here.

Again, the firearm wasn't the problem here, the mentally ill woman was. Firearms just make it easier to kill people.

Next question: why did the woman try to kill both her children?

<< Would the teen be dead if it was a Quran and not a Bible? >>

Well, the Bible does have more pages than the Quran.

Musta been a pretty tight choke on that shotgun, though. Or else she used a slug... can't imagine a bible stopping all that raw power.

Reminds me of that Simpson's episode where the mob is shooting at Homer, but keeps hitting Ned Flanders, but his wooden cross, bible and something else stop the bullets :)

If it wasn't a gun it would have been a butcher knife, there's always something.

I'm sure they aren't. How is it even conceiveable to kill your own children, though? I mean, you gotta be really, really screwed up.
