What a way to start a life

Born at around 26 or 28 weeks gestation
Weighed only about 2 pounds
Developed pneumococcal meningitis
Does not even have a first name, chart has "baby boy" for first name

Welcome to the world.

I do not know the child or parents, I only saw the chart.

Another case I saw, the mom was homeless, and known drug abuser. As soon as the baby was born, child protection services took the baby and placed it with foster parents. The mom admitted to shooting up just a couple of hours before she went into labor. A couple of days after birth, the baby started detox and having seizures. The baby had to be put on some kind of detox medicine to stop it from having the seizures.

This second baby developed meningitis as well.

Homeless mom found some attorney that was going to try to help the mom get her child back. But where are they going to live? Was she going to be breastfeeding under the overpasses?

What is wrong with people that the mom shoots up drugs and the baby is born addicted? Dont people ever think about stuff like that.

Wow that is quite sad. People are stupid. Even animals take better care of themselves and their babies.

If someone is addicted to drugs or has other serious life issues, the least they can do is not get pregnant.

That is tough, and a very rough start for ones so young.🙁

Hopefully, they'll survive and live happy, productive lives.

As for what's wrong with people,...good question.

I learned today that Leighton Meester was born while her mom was in jail.

When my boys were in the NICU, I saw another baby girl so small it was amazing she was even out. Incubator, multiple tubes, so sad.

hope that kid will fight and survive all the bad shits that have been thrown his way by people that are supposed to love and protect him. My prayer goes out for him.

You don't just stop shooting up when you become pregnant. It isn't like cutting down on fatty foods. Trying to get custody is a puzzle though. I'd think putting the baby up for adoption would be the obvious course of action.

I have a now 18 year old adopted son. He was born to a mother that was an alcoholic and cocaine user. We adopted him when he was 2 years old. He still has some learning problems, but with the right help he has turned out very well. I just don't understand how someone can do that to a baby.
