Night shift over, I go to use the auto start on my car thinking it's not that cold out. Can't see the car from the building so it's a guessing game as to if it starts, usually it does but if it's really cold I'm better off manually starting it.

Get to my car 15 minutes later and it's not started. Damnit. When it fails to start, the radio keeps going forever and when it's -40 it does not take long for that to kill the battery. Turns out it's much colder than I thought. Battery dead.

So I get a boost from my coworker who I just cross shifted with. No issues, I let the car warm up since the windshield is completely iced up inside and out. I come back 15 minutes later and it's still iced up but enough to drive, at this point I just want to go to bed because this is not my last shift. As I'm driving I notice my gas gauge is redlined. WTF! I thought I put gas not that long ago. I can't leave the car in my driveway like that so I gamble and drive to the gas station hoping it wont be closed. This is before 8am and not sure what time they open, but I'm hoping it's like 7am. I get there and they're just opening up but as I get ready to start pumping the attendant who was outside checking the pumps or something tells me their interac does not work. Just great. This is a new gas station with newer pumps and there is a feature where you can pay at the pump. Typically this is not used and is disabled but I ask if it will work and he did not know. So I go to try it, but it did not work.

So I go to the Mac's so I can take out 100 bucks from the ATM which will cover a full tank of gas. Keeps declining my card saying I overdrew my balance. WTF, I did not realize I even had a limit let alone that it was that low, and I did not even use my card yet today. I ask the cashier if they do cash back, they do but only 20 bucks. So I buy a bag of chips and get 20 bucks.

Finally I get to put gas in my car, but only 20 bucks worth. I manage to get it to $19.90. Close enough. Go inside to pay and drive back home. The needle barely moved but at least it's not redlined anymore. I still don't know how I managed to let it get that low. Typically I fill up when it's half way.

Now you think it's over. As I'm typing this post my cat puked leaving a 2'x2' puddle of nastiness. Just finished cleaning that up.

The good news is, this is night shift, means I can go to bed, before this hell of a day gets even worse.

So how was everyone else's morning? :D

Wow that sucks. I woke up this morning to find that the 70 degree weather we had yesterday is now 30. Hate the cold.

I am having an awesome Sunday morning. Just got done with a killer breakfast after having the morning wood taken care of by a sweetheart I met yesterday.

You couldn't just get the $20 from the ATM?

The ATM kept declining me for some reason no matter what amount I put. When you buy something through interac it's a different limit than taking out money at an ATM. I'll have to call my bank and see WTF was up with that. Going to try the bank's ATM, I regularly take out 100ish bucks and I never had an issue. The little gas I was able to put should at least get me to the bank and to the gas station so I can actually fill it up.

Pay at the pump is new there? I haven't seen a pump without it in 20 years.

Visa/MC? And there aren't any 24 hour gas stations in Timmins?

I used to have days like this until I had the realization that if I quit thinking only 20 minutes into the future and started thinking ahead on a long term basis, my life would be so much easier. Lo and behold, it worked!

And who was this so called sweetheart? Was it someone that we know? :)

Debit card. MC card stopped working at store terminals, I need to get a replacement.

There are a few 24/7 gas stations but I was still gambling on the fact that the one I was going to was one of them or not. Would not have had enough gas to start driving all over the place. I wanted to go to the one closest to my house so at least if I stall it's not that far of a walk.

Still not sure how the hell the gas went that low so fast though. I'm starting to wonder if I got siphoned overnight.

usually leaving a car running 15 minutes? Ripe for auto theft. And not good for the car.

Usually I use the auto start, but if I have to do it manually then it's a risk I take. Joke's on them when they realize it just got a boost and the battery is flat. :D

How is it not good for the car? It's much worse on the car to drive off when you did not let it warm up.

^ you can promptly drive the car as long as you don't over-rev it. It actually works better to drive it up to temp. This piece of advice is all over the internet if you look it up.

Really the only benefit of remote starters is so the cabin is warm, but of course that takes over 10 minutes sometimes. Hell I can set my car to 84F (the max) and drive over 5 minutes and it will still not blow any air at all - until it's capable of blowing warm air which is when the engine is finally warm.
