My wife does this all the time. Don't get me anything, we just spent money on blah blah blah that'll be our gift to each other.

It's a trap dude. You have to get her something.

Everything I have brought up over the course of the day has been shot down by her. We had planned on going away for this anniv but then our fridge was having issues and needed replacing at the same time that the tile floor was being done and my car started stalling. Life does get in the way sometimes...

I will see if I have time on my way home tonight to get a nice flowering plant (she doesn't like cut flowers) at the local farm.

Good call. I like to pick up a bottle of her favorite perfume and a card personally.

I have no idea when the last time she wore perfume was and we have a running joke about physical cards and how they are pointless...

Its our anniversary and my wife thinks I should just put a bow on either the new fridge or the new tile floor as her "gift" :)

This is all part of a 900sq foot addition we are still working on and she wants to keep costs low so that the new kitchen can get finished!
she's a keeper :)

Meh, it's the thought that counts. Christ, don't you guys do anything romantic?

I'm coming up on 19 years in September and I still get my wife flowers and cards to mark special occasions.

To each their own. Cut flowers die and cards aren't any more useful than actually SAYING the words or showing them through your day to day actions.

My wife & I do this sort of thing all the time. Instead of buying each other "gifts" for anniversary/birthday/christmas, we buy things we both want for the house, we take vacations, etc.

The only time that the trap gets set is when you're foolish enough to ask what she'd like for; Mother's Day, Anniversary, Birthday, Christmas, whatever gift-giving day, and she says, "Nothing. Don't buy anything this year."
THAT's a trap...a deadly one at that...

I typically jot down what she offhandedly says she wants as the year goes by and get that for xmas, birthday, etc (and typically have stuff in my cabinet at work incase I screw up and forget to get something for one of those).

Oh yeah...I keep notes as well.

"You know, I really like this flowery widget. That would make a nice birthday present if you don't know what to get."

/me scribbles furiously in notebook...and steals picture from magazine/newspaper, etc.

Sometimes I'll buy it early...just in case, but that's often not been a good idea.
"WTF? Why did you buy me this?"

"Because, on May 23, you told me you liked it and suggested it as a birthday present.":\

"Not possible. I think that's retarded...but thank you anyway, the thought was good."

Damned wimmenz...about the time a guy thinks he has teh rulez figured out...they change the damned rules.

At the very least she has never said that she didn't want X after she received it although she often doesn't remember mentioning various things. For the longest time I had a bunch of seasons of MASH sitting on a shelf because it is her favorite show but I ended up getting a really good deal on the Martini box set so switched them out and screwed myself out of a bunch of gifts in the process...

She's quite obviously cheating on you and getting nice things from her guy on the side. She's encouraging you to buy things for the house because one day she'll leave you and get it all anyway.

Sorry, man, but life sucks sometimes.

Yeah, she is doing that in her copious free time while homeschooling our son, running him around to various activities. Yup, definitely...
