I work at on IT Service Desk. Things are going from bad to worse, its only mid morning but servers and services are dropping one by one AND SO IS MY FRICKEN SANITY...

I am also helpdesk, and I sympathize. Since a co-worker got promoted our team is low on headcount, and the calls just won't stop coming. We're frustrated because our hands are tied - in many cases we have to wait for someone else to do something, and often that person is on vacation we did have a temp filling the gap for a while, but he started not showing up so we cut him loose. And now we've noticed several laptops are missing...

help desk people aren't really "IT people" in the same way as admins and devs... that was my point. Let the IT people finally earn their paycheck.

I don't know what part of the IT industry you're refering to, but that certainly isn't the case at my job.
