Not ripe yet.

The best thing to do is pick some of them, and then leave them standing upright in the open air. Put them in a vase or something similar. I am surprised you have not seen a similar situation in other people's house.

You will know when they are ripe because their skin changes color to that corn yellow color.

The wild ones just taste like shit. You need the ones that have been GMO'd for added flavor and texture.
Better living through chemistry and genetic modification!
