I subleased a room this summer and gave the guy a $100 deposit check.

some background on this guy:
basically he's just an a$$hole who doesn't even *understand* how anything in life could be more important than money. ex: one night he gloated to us all about how he was getting $15K for some stupid little research assistant thing at the university but he told his poor immigrant parents he was only getting $2K so that they would still give him money. this guy had the amazing giant LCD and fantastic computer and...etc

so anyway when I was moving out, he wasn't home, so I left a big note for him telling him to call the following number immediately to talk to me (so I could get my deposit check back). he didn't call. so I called his cell a few times and he never answered it. so then I went over to the house but nobody answered the door.

anyway, I just checked and he cashed the fscking check yesterday.

oi. why does the world have to have such dicks?
 
I would have stopped payment on the check instead of asking for it back. But oh well, yea that guy is a Certified asshole.

Sucks you had all bad experiences. I had three roommates, two were good experiences. One, the last roomie, I am good friends with to this day.

god i always find something wrong with my roomates, one thing or another...

on the other hand, yeah probably my roomates thought i have issues too.

 
Yeah I made the mistake of getting a roommate again that happens to be a good friend and financially unstable/inept/irresponsible/etc. Once the lease is up next year I'm getting my own place again. Roommates = teh devil no matter who they are(hopefully that'll change if/when I get married.)
 
Roommates can suck or be great or be a combo of the both.

When I first moved out my first roommate was my brother and that was nothing different than living with him at the parents for the most part except I ended up paying for his part of all the bills for about 8 months until I got feed up with him being unemployed and told him to either get a job or I'll have to break the lease and find a place on my own.

2nd roommate (last year) was an old friend only reason I moved in with him was my brother was getting married and he was the only person at the time looking for a roommate also, that sucked the most. He smoked pot in the house every day (I quit that sh!t awhile ago) and he was/is basically a drunk. I was happy when that year was over.

Current roommate is a PC guy like myself and for the most part we get along great. We have one hell of an electric bill though between all of our PC's and electronic shit, but now I don't have to deal with the smell of pot every day and feel soooo much happier to come home after work.

Yea, roommates have their ups and downs.

i never had issues with mine, i lived wiuth the same dude for 2 years,

my freshmen year the dud i was with was cool and my senior year i lived in a house with 4 other people, had a single so it was all good

it seems like all of you live with comleatly random people and not people you know, i think thats your issue
 
I actually like my roommates now, they're both my friends and we have yet to fight over anything.

Because the check was a deposit... to cover any damages that may occur. It is returned when you leave if the place is in shape... it's to ensure you don't trash the place and not stick the owner with the bills. The reason to get it back is because he didn't do any damage... wouldn't YOU want $100 back that technically belongs to you?




Go put rocks through the windows of the place so he has to spend the $100 and then some to repair them.
