So i ordered a refurb dell e1705 off thier outlet a couple weeks ago. It was a centrino duo, with wxga screen, 7900gs, 1gb ram, 80gb hd, got it for $754 shipped after 10% coupon.

Well after a couple days i noticed the screen had many dead pixels, so they replaced it with the WUXGA true life! Awesome!, well a couple mroe days later, it wouldnt boot from the battery, only the ac adapter, so they sent a replacement, it was a CORE 2 DUO with 2gb ram 120gb hd and wuxga screen!..however it had a x1400 graphics card. So i called and said i want the card exchanged and told them my original cpu specs were not the same. They said, "well you can keep the upgrades and well send a techie to swap in a 7900gs for ya."

so a $754 dollar computer has turned into a $2000 one..sweet!

the best part is that the 7900gs is bios moddable to 7900gtx speeds and more...dell locks it at 300/400 or soemthing like that, peopel are getting around 650/900 on these bad boys...one guy has about 9300 in 3dmark05. crazy stuff, plus dells tech support rocks, I told them i was unhappy with having a dud laptop for a couple weeks, so they sent me a $50 laptop bag! lovin dell so far🙂

Slightly different situation, but AMD at one point upgrade a friend of mine's processor to one of the latest FX chips at the time. He got on in and a couple weeks in it died. He sent it back to them and they didn't carry it anymore so just sent him the next top of the line model they had.

Wish I had that luck.

thats what happening to me i think, so if you get a older refrub and its a dud, they pretty much need to send you new parts because i bet its hard for them to build a new refurb exactly to your specifications and older ones probably arent as abundant as newer models...im supposing anyway.. check out dell outlet though..and find the %10 coupons
