What a day... Mom in the Hospital UPDATE: Shes home for now :)

Oh man what a night/day...

Last night my dad and I had to rush my mom to the hospital. She was having chest pains and pains in her left arm. She had a heart attack in 1991. They fixed the blockage that time with Angioplasty (which was performed twice because the first attempt did not work.)

Her EKG and blood work came back fine this morning, and they said that she had not had another heart attack yet. The doctor thinks that she may have another blockage though. They are going to go in tommorow and find out (heart cathader). If she does have a blockage Im not sure if they can treat it with medicine or if they will have to do something like angioplasty again.

I have noticed that she hasn't felt good for awhile now. I even asked her for me to take her to the hospital Sunday morning, but she wouldn't go. Last night she was in enough pain that she couldn't sit on the bed, so dad told me to get the car ready and we left.

Both sides of my family have a history of heart disease. 🙁

Well I just woke up (came home and took a nap) and Im going to head back to the hospital in a few. I hope everything goes alright and she will be alright.

hope it all works out for ya. my dad had a lot of blockage, but we got him in before an attack. he didn't do angioplasty though..he had shints (sp?) put in. hasn't had a problem since and that was about 3 or 4 years ago. you should see if you mom can get those instead of the angioplasty...?

Good Luck

thanks for all the kind words... I will keep you guys updated.

Im not sure if they will do that or the angioplasty. All I do know at this time is they think she might have a blockage and they are going to check tommorow. They did say that if they found a blockage and they could open it while they were in there they would.

Man, I know exactly what you're going through. My mom is going to the hospital this Thursday for the same thing. Back in 2000 she had a stent put in to open up some arteries, then had a bypass procedure done afterwords. Last week she was complaining about being tired a lot and difficulty in breathing. So she went to see the doctor, and this Thursday they're going to do some sort of tests on her to see what the cause is.
I'll add you to my prayer list man. Just noticed you live in NC, where is your mom going? My mom is going to the regional hospital at ECU.

Good luck and best wishes, my stepdad went through this several times, and is still going strong ten years later, hopefully you will have the same luck! You and your family are in my thoughts.

argh, i hate it how parents always try to act tough and wait to go to the hospital until they absolutely have to! my parents are like that.

anyways, best of luck with your mom.

well she came home today after her Heart Cath yesterday.

They found two major blockages (one on the left and one on the right). Both were blocked about 90%.

The one on the left was the one causing the pain the doctor said, and it was ulcerated. They managed to repair this with a stint, and she was sent home today.

She has to return to the hospital next week (monday or tuesday, doctor is calling tommorow to give us the date and time) to have the other side fixed. More than likely they will do the same thing as today and repair it with a stint, and she will be sent home the following day. The reason they could not do both sides yesterday was that they had to inject her with so much dye that they didn't want to risk it. The doctor said that they dye can mess with some people's kidneys, etc...

Right now she has no pain and is basically sitting around home enjoying being here.

She says she hates that she has to go back next week, but said she is thankful that she didn't have a heart attack and that she will be ok. (as we all are 🙂 )

I think the doctor wants her to start going to a heart program at WFU where they walk, etc... When she goes I am probably going to go with her as a support person, and do the program with her. I am overweight myself and it will not only help me, but give her someone to keep her company, etc... while she does this.

I would like to thank everyone at Anandtech for thinking about us this week. Hopefully after the procedure next week she will be on the road to recovery.

AmigaMan she was at/will be going back to Forsyth in Winston - Salem.
