I don't have money galore to spend but I can save and save if need be. I want something bigger than 19inches that will rival the picture quality of my current 700nf. The 1200nf looks good but for around 700 bucks after shipping there has to be something a little cheaper?

Can't hurt to check out refurbs. My Viewsonic P220f was 600CDN (less than U$ 400) with a one year warranty.
Most are off-lease stuff. If they're OK after a year or so of use on lease, they'll probably stay that way.

How is the picture quality of the HP P1110? What refresh rate does it do at 1600x1200?

I think the P1110 would be a nice monitor. I think it's the same as the Sony G500.

I've got the Dell P1110 (same thing as HP P1110 I think??) and it is a GREAT monitor! Not sure what refresh it does at 1600x1200. I run mine at 1280x1024 @ 85hz and it looks wonderful!

You're pretty much out of luck if you want a 21/22" that rivals the 1200NF for reasonably lower than $700 after shipping... I dont know any 21/22" monitor based on Aperture Grille that cost less than $640ish, whether it be DiamondTron or Trinitron. Unless you go refurbished, you're not going to find one for cheaper than ~$700. The HP 1110 is discontinued, so is the Dell P1110, the model they have right now is called the 1130.

I'm open to refurbished monitors... but how would a refurbed p1110 compare to the 1200nf? Would I really notice a difference? If I'm spending anywhere near 700 I'm definitely going for the 1200nf but ~400 for a refurbed p1110 sounds great. I'm looking for a worthy upgrade from my 700nf, and if the picture quality of the p1110 is not near that samsung nf series then I will be forced into the 1200nf.

Monitor is not a component that I personally would take a chance on, definitely no refurb stuff, 'cause you never know what happened to that unit. Unless you've seen it and think it's ok, when I say seen it I mean seeing the one you'll be buying, a "test drive" so to speak, other than that I would not trust refurbished monitors. If you only got $400ish, I highly recommend going with a super 19" instead of taking a wild shot with the refurbs. With that said, the P1110 should look on par with the 1200NF when it's new.

Haha 1700 dollar 24 inch monitor nippyjun? That's a lot of cash, if we're talking over a 1000 bucks then I might as well save enough for a huge HD TV and just hook my computer up to a vga input.

19 inchers are basically out of the question because no matter how great the picture, upgrading from a 17 inch to a 19 inch just doesn't seem to have enough point...

?? Many people noticed a night and day difference, I personally think 19" is much more roomier than 17", plus they have the ability to go up to those ultra high resolutions the 17"s can only dream of doing. But if you only got $400 or so and you want something in the lines of the 1200NF, I say forget about it. Maybe if you're willing to go with some non-flat shadow mask, then it would be a possibility.
