What 20"+ LCD Monitor?

Currently own a 19" Viewsonic a90f+ CRT and want to upgrade to something 20"+

I was going to make a new thread but wanted more/newer opinions, since a little time has elapsed since I made this thread ;) I've decided "NOT" to go widescreen and stick with a 20" reg lcd like the Dell 2001

Updated question:
What monitor can I pick up locally (Best Buy/Circuit City/Sears/) that would be comparable to a Dell 2001FP? Reason for buying locally= easy return/less hassle if there's "ANY" problem.
I don't care about paying a little more. Paying more is alot better than having to bother with shipping a monitor back, hassles, waiting etc. etc. etc. My time is not worth it.

I just want a decent monitor.

I have been extremely happy with the Hyundai L90D+. It is a 8ms 19" LCD. It is highly rated on NewEgg, has received good reviews on the web, has DVI-D input, and only costs $329. Here is the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824179014

OOPS--ignore. I just figured out that you are looking for something 20"+ -- my bad! Anyway, anyone looking for a really good 19" one will like this Hyundai.

Have you used both of them side by side yourself in order to make this assertion? I have both monitors, and they are both very comparable in quality/picture/response. The Dell is nice, but it does not "blow away" the Hyundai by any stretch of the imagination.

CRT? Only one brand to consider. Samsung. Their flat screen 19" CRT is probably the best there is and ever will be. There is no longer any innovation in the CRT department, so this monitor stands alone, pretty much. Not too expensive--about $229. Check out NewEgg. You might buy it locally, since shipping one of these things is expensive and might actually be cheaper retail.

i'm sorry if i offended you...the hyundai is a GREAT monitor for the price but if you compare color reproduction between the two (necessary if you do photoshopping), you would notice a difference between the two. The L90D+ is 6-bit while the 2005FPW is 8-bit. But if your not photoshopping or care about color reproduction, you won't notice much difference. The L90D+ is a very good monitor if your on a budget, very good price to performance ratio.

No offense taken! The Hyundai is 8-bit. It is a full 16.7M colors, and is a PVA/LCD.

A 19" CRT is MASSIVE and HEAVY. They will take up so much desk space you will not believe it! If you can spend about $100 more, then I highly recommend the 19" LCD--even if you have to hook it up analog for the time being, and then upgrade to a DVI-D capable video card down the line.

I've never seen the 2405FPW cheaper than $800. The 2005FPW can be had for roughly $400-500 regularly on sale though.

IIRC, there were a few debate on whether or not the L90D+ was 8-bit or not. And it was said that it is actually only 16.2M colors but can "almost" achieve (or look like) 8-bit. The L90D+ is a TN monitor, which cannot currently achieve 8-bit, not PVA. Here's something that backs up what i said about the specs...

Just confirmed it. You are correct. It is TN. The Hyundai website and NewEgg were just recently updated to remove the PVA designation--I just went back and checked (they had PVA listed when I bought it). They do still claim 16.7M colors, though. I have a tough time telling a quality difference between the two, though. I do not Photoshop, so that may explain it.

yup, it can almost acheive 16.7M because it is built with components similar to overdrive...

LCDs rule. If you are looking for the best value, and are NOT Photoshopping from what Unkno said, then I highly recommend the Hyundai. You will need to keep the native resolution, though. Most LCDs only work well at ONE resolution, and in this case 1280x1024. Make sure your video card is powerful enough to get good enough frame rates at this resolution. A minimum of a 6800GT or X800XL is recommended, from my standpoint.

Edited to say, I just saw you plan on a 7800GT. Good pick. Don't go lower.
