There are two official sets of portraits done for each President. One is normal, the George Washington type. The other set is for the National Portrait Gallery and I guess it's supposed to express the inner man.
But if I was Poppa Bush or Gerald Ford (the mask thing) I would have sued the artist's ass off.

Neither are good presidents and have no right to be in the WhiteHouse. The left doesn't support free speech, apparently you missed all their attempts to shut down opposing views at many of the universities. Even Bill Maher got banned by some schools which is so wrong.

apparently there's a significant amount of symbolism and references in the obama's portraits, even in choice of artist, especially michelle's. they are not simply just portraits as in "here's a painting of the president and first lady".

i think only people really versed in art will look at them and appreciate all the fine details. for the rest of us, who probably expect portraits to be a flattering representations of the subjects, i suspect we are sporting some pretty confused looks.
